Kimi Onoda becomes Japan’s new minister of economic security, pledging to protect Japan’s interests and tighten immigration controls.
Kimi Onoda, formerly the Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Defense, has officially taken charge of Japan’s powerful Economic Security ministry.
She will oversee critical areas like supply-chain protection, cybersecurity, and the nation’s immigration framework.
Onoda was born in the United States to a Japanese mother and a non-Japanese father but moved to Japan when she was one year old.
Known for her nationalist and disciplined style, she’s viewed as one of the most outspoken pro-Japan voices in the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.
She has made waves with her quote: “What’s wrong with patriotism? What’s wrong with loving Japan? If you hate Japan, then leave Japan!”
Under her leadership, Japan is expected to push for stricter visa checks, tighter enforcement against abuses, and faster deportations for serious offenders.
Foreign workers and residents should expect a new balance — easier entry for top talent, but a harder road for everyone else.
