Ine is a fishing village on the coast of the Sea of Japan in the north of Kyoto Prefecture. The village is famous for its some 230 funaya(船屋), wooden boathouses, lined up for five kilometers along Ine Bay. These houses have an unique construction. The first floor, which offers direct access to the sea, is used to store boats and fishing gear. Above this is a secondary living room which is connected to the main house with access to the road.
