Japan shuts down proposal for massive Islamic cemetery and warns immigrants to respect local traditions
Japan’s lawmakers debated a plan to build a large Islamic cemetery, but the proposal was firmly rejected.
Mizuho Umemura of the House of Councillors said Japan does not need more cemeteries because cremation is the national norm.
She noted residents strongly oppose burials due to groundwater and agricultural water contamination concerns.
Some politicians even suggested using this moment to consider banning all burials in Japan altogether.
Umemura stated that if Muslim immigrants die in Japan, they should either be cremated or pay to transport the body home.
She emphasized that Japan’s cultural practices should not be reshaped to accommodate foreign demands.
Her final warning was that those who are inconsiderate now will “surely be troubled by the near future.”
The debate has ignited massive discussion online, with many Japanese praising her tough stance.

তিনি উল্লেখ করেছেন যে ভূগর্ভস্থ জল এবং কৃষিজ জল দূষণের কারণে বাসিন্দারা কবরস্থানের তীব্র বিরোধিতা করেন।
কিছু রাজনীতিবিদ এমনকি এই মুহূর্তটি ব্যবহার করে জাপানে সমস্ত কবরস্থান সম্পূর্ণরূপে নিষিদ্ধ করার কথা বিবেচনা করার পরামর্শ দিয়েছেন।
উমেমুরা বলেছেন যে যদি মুসলিম অভিবাসীরা জাপানে মারা যায়, তাহলে তাদের হয় দাহ করা উচিত অথবা মৃতদেহ বাড়িতে নিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য অর্থ প্রদান করা উচিত।
তিনি জোর দিয়েছিলেন যে বিদেশী চাহিদা মেটাতে জাপানের সাংস্কৃতিক রীতিগুলিকে পুনর্গঠন করা উচিত নয়।
তার শেষ সতর্কীকরণ ছিল যে যারা এখন অবিবেচক তারা "অদূর ভবিষ্যতে অবশ্যই সমস্যায় পড়বেন।"
