The train company in Japan will now expand ticket payment methods to facilitate passengers especially for the rising tourists. Other than IC cards like Suica and Pasmo. Many train operators accept payments with contactless credit cards and even face recognition.
Tokyo and Seibu Railway have received payment by contactless credit card method. Keisei Electric Railway and Osaka Metro have also implemented facial recognition for gate access on certain routes. Many areas are not maintaining IC card infrastructure due to high costs. Five train companies in Kumamoto Prefecture have stopped using IC cards and switched to contactless credit cards completely.
However, the train company JR Group has not yet planned to adopt a credit card payment method. JR East party for example, in the next 10 years strategy meeting, JR East will remain focused on developing Suica as a multifunctional tool, including integration with My Number system and plans to adopt a face recognition system, without adopting a contactless credit card system.
