Crunchyroll subtitling staff are reportedly being forced to abandon their old software and switch to an Isr@eli one. According to anime insider SugoiLITE, most of Crunchyroll’s subtitling team used to rely on Aegisub, a free open-source tool popular in the fan and pro communities.

But recently, staff have reportedly been told to stop using it and switch to a cloud-based platform called “OOONA,” which is entirely developed in Israel.

This change hasn’t gone over well with many translators. They're frustrated about being forced to use unfamiliar software, especially as it may signal a bigger shift toward AI-assisted translation, something many hoped Crunchyroll had backed away from.

SugoiLITE also noted that Crunchyroll continues to pay its subtitling team and other staffers very late, adding to the growing frustration behind the scenes.

Daily Dose of Anime has contacted Crunchyroll’s PR department for comment and will update if a response is received.

Popular manga/manhwa site Comick, which drew about 125 million visits per month, has officially shut down, the Comick team announced on the site’s Discord server.

In a message posted to the community, the admin said they’d made the difficult decision to close the project after much thought, but did not give exact reasons for the shutdown.

The post thanked everyone for supporting the site over the years and called running the platform an “incredible experience.”

Although the site is currently offline, the team reassured users that personal manga/comic lists are safe. They’re preparing a dedicated page where people will be able to access and export their lists, and they said they’ll share that link in the Discord when it’s ready.
