「迷子ペットを飼い主の元へ」

前世があるとしたら、藤原さんは
野山を駆け巡る野生動物だったに違いない。
不良少年だったと語る中学生時代には、
約1年間の家出生活でさらに動物への理解が深まったという。
「野良犬とか野良猫は安全で快適な場所を
見つけるのが凄く上手い。
寒い冬の時期はそういう場所で犬や猫と抱きあって寝たり、
お弁当を分けあって食べたりしました。
それがすごく楽しかった。
だから何度連れ戻されても家出を繰り返して、
最後は親公認の家出になっていました」
そして、人生のターニングポイントが20代後半に訪れる。
「当時は沖縄で漁師をしていたのですが、
ある日ペット探偵になって活躍する夢を見たんです。
そんな仕事があることすら知らなかったのに凄くリアルな夢で、
雷に打たれたような衝撃を受けました。
これこそ自分がやるべき仕事だと思い、
そこからの仕事にまっしぐらです」
開業から約30年。
携わったペット捜しの相談は1万件以上になる。
「ペット捜しは、誰かの役に立つという点で
大きなやりがいや喜びになります。
一方で、狩猟本能を満たすという点で
僕個人の喜びにもなっている気がします。
だから僕にとってこの仕事は一石二鳥なんです（笑）」
■PROFILE／藤原博史
1969年、兵庫県出身。幼少期から常に昆虫や動物たちと親しみ、その存在に魅了され畏敬の念を抱く。1997年に迷子になった動物を捜すペットレスキューを設立。電話でのアドバイスを含めると捜索件数は優に1万件を超える。2020年にNHK BSプレミアムで放送されたドキュメンタリードラマ『猫探偵の事件簿』のモデル。著書に『210日ぶりに帰ってきた奇跡のネコ―ペット探偵の奮闘記―』（新潮新書）、『ペット探偵は見た！』（扶桑社BOOKS）がある。

If Fujiwara had a past life, he must have been a wild animal roaming the mountains and fields.
He says that he was a delinquent boy in junior high school, but his understanding of animals deepened after running away from home for about a year.
"Stray dogs and cats are very good at finding safe and comfortable places.
During the cold winter months, I would sleep in those places, hugging them, and share my lunch.
It was a lot of fun.
So no matter how many times I was brought back, I kept running away from home, and in the end, my parents approved me for running away from home."
Then, a turning point in his life came in his late 20s.
"At the time, I was a fisherman in Okinawa, but one day I had a dream that I became a pet detective. I didn't even know that such a job existed, but it was a very realistic dream, and I was shocked like I was struck by lightning. I thought that this was the job I should do, and I went straight for the job."
It's been about 30 years since the business opened.
He has been involved in more than 10,000 pet search consultations.
"Searching for pets is a great reward and joy in that it helps someone. On the other hand, I feel that it is also a personal joy in that it satisfies my hunting instinct.
So for me, this job kills two birds with one stone (laughs)."
■PROFILE/Hiroshi Fujiwara
Born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1969. Since childhood, he has always been familiar with insects and animals, and is fascinated and awestruck by their existence. In 1997, he founded Pet Rescue, which searches for lost animals. Including advice over the phone, the number of searches easily exceeds 10,000. He was the inspiration for the documentary drama "Cat Detective's Casebook," which aired on NHK BS Premium in 2020. His books include "The Miraculous Cat Who Returned After 210 Days - The Struggles of a Pet Detective" (Shincho Shinsho) and "The Pet Detective Saw It!" (Fusosha BOOKS).
