Hi friends and our INOW community! Long time no post… whoops. But spring is about fresh starts, so here we go again! 🌿

Since our last update in February, we’ve had the joy of welcoming guests from Nigeria, Hong Kong, and Waseda University’s international student community. We've also had great conversations with individuals and families who were curious to learn more about zero waste ♻️

As the days get longer and warmer, we’re feeling extra grateful to be enjoying more time outside! During Japan’s Golden Week, we celebrated the season by helping hang koi nobori 🎏, which are beautiful carp streamers to mark Children’s Day. In about a week we will also start our rice planting.

Here’s to a new season and (hopefully) more updates 💚

2月の最後の投稿以来、ナイジェリア、香港、そして早稲田大学の留学生の皆さんをお迎えすることができました。また、ゼロ・ウェイストについてもっと知りたいという個人やご家族とも素敵な時間を過ごしました ♻️

日が長くなり、暖かくなってきて、外で過ごす時間が増えていることに感謝しています。GW中には、こどもの日を祝う鯉のぼり🎏を飾るお手伝いもしました。そして、約1週間後には田植えも始まります。

🌿 Hello July! It's hot and humid across Japan as we've entered summer. We're finding an escape from the heat in these mossy and shaded forests. We're grateful for nature at our door step.

🌿 Last week we brought guests from Hong Kong on this hike and the moss looked beautiful!

🌿 We're still looking for applications for our summer program in August, apply until July 17! Experience meaningful natural and cultural experiences focused on sustainability and zero waste.

💗 This summer we are celebrating our fourth year as a small business. Over the years, we have welcomed over 300 guests from around the world from every continent. Since we are limited in the number of private requests we can take, we’ve decided to host our first-ever group summer program (application required*).

✨️ This program is years in the making and we are SO excited to launch the first edition of the "INOW Zero Waste Immersive Program". This August, join us for 1 week as we explore, reflect, and, through experience, learn about zero waste and sustainability in the village of Kamikatsu, Tokushima.

♻️ Together over 6 days, and 7 nights in August, we will journey through Kamikatsu to learn what zero waste means for local residents and what a small village is capable of. We hope to connect you to the beauty of Kamikatsu and the warmth of the local people.

👉🏽 *Please note: applying for this program does not guarantee participation. There is a maximum of 6 participants to make this an intimate program, where we can exchange ideas and share in meaningful dialogue with each other and the local people. We hope to create a diverse group of participants encompassing differences in age, skills and knowledge, culture, and personal motivations. Applying is free & non-binding.

SDGs Global Human Resource Development Program: Call for participants!

🗣 Great opportunity for university students interested in sustainability and living in Japan. Participation in the program is fully funded. Students must be living in Japan and speak English.

🌟 This program includes Field Training to visit SDGs model regions in Japan including a visit to Kamikatsu from 2-5 September.

IGES北九州アーバンセンターでは、環境問題を通して学びと社会をつなぐ「SDGsグローバル人材育成プログラム」を開催します。全国の大学・大学院生を対象に、国籍を問わず参加者を募集します。定員はSDGsゴールと同じ、17名。参加費は無料で、プログラム内の交通費や宿泊費もIGESがサポートします。申し込み締め切りは6月23日（日）

SDGs Global Human Resource Development Program: Call for participants!
IGES will hold the SDGs Global Human Resource Development Program that connects learning and society through environmental issues.
Applications are open to university and graduate students from all over Japan, regardless of nationality. The maximum number of participants is 17, the same as for the SDG goals. Participation is free of charge and IGES will also support transportation and accommodation costs within the programme.
The deadline for applications is Sunday 23 June.

For three years in a row, INOW has planted rice in a small rice field in Kamikatsu. With a declining and aging population, this project is part of an effort to sustain and regenerate the Satoyama landscape of our village.

This year we were so happy to welcome students from the University of Illinois (School of Art & Design) to join us 🌱 We all enjoyed the sun on our back, the fresh breeze, and the mud between our toes. It was a natural and cultural experience we could all enjoy together 🌏

3年連続で、INOWは小さな田んぼで田植えをした。今年はアメリカの大学生も参加してくれたのが嬉しかった🌱 素晴らしい自然と文化体験を楽しむことができました🌏 かみかつ茅葺き学校のスタッフ全員のサポートで毎年お米を作ることができます。2024年、みんなでお米を作りましょう！

🌏 Happy Earth Day 2024! アースデー 2024、地球の日 🌿 地球環境についての意識を高めるための日。特に毎年4月22日。

There are so many small actions we can take every day to reduce our impact on the environment and planet. Through our program, we try to share with guests that caring for the planet starts with usーour values, our consumption, and ultimately, how we choose to live.

For us, the message that "circularity is as much about a way of life as it is about technology or materials" is at the heart of what we try to convey. Change starts with us and within.

When we think about our impact, let's also consider the ways we travel and how we can also pledge toward sustainability in the tourism industry.

Last week we welcomed a group of incredible entrepreneurs and change-makers from Thailand to Kamikatsu 🌟

In collaboration with Goodwill Compounding from Thailand, we organized and created an immersive learning experience that focused on learning from various businesses in the town that are engaging in sustainable practices. It was a program where we not only learned from business leaders in Kamikatsu but where each guest shared their own experiences and learned from each other.
