A Ugandan Charity founder Eyagu jailed for stealing Shs 3.1m meant for vulnerable pupils in Teso Eastern Uganda.

Boniface Eyagu was convicted by the Ngora Magistrate’s court after admitting to charges arising from the misappropriation of money donated by United Kingdom-based sponsors to pay school fees for disadvantaged pupils.

Court heard that the donors had entrusted Eyagu, through his organisation, with Shs 3.5 million to clear tuition fees for ten pupils at Vienna Nursery and Primary School. Instead, prosecutors said, he paid only Shs 400,000 to the school and diverted the remaining Shs 3.1 million for personal use.

He has been ordered to refund the money within 2 months.

Appearing before Parliament's Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs, Byabashaija said the Prisons Service works with medical professionals to determine appropriate treatment for inmates.

The issue was raised by Kampala Woman MP Shamim Malende, who expressed concern about remand inmates with pre-existing conditions whose prescribed medicines may not be available in prison health facilities.

The Employment and Labour Relations Court has dismissed a Sh1 billion pension recovery suit filed by the former Local Authorities Provident Fund Board against Migori County, ruling that the Board lacked the legal capacity to sue.

The court found that the Board ceased to exist after Parliament repealed the law that established it, leaving it without the legal standing to institute or pursue the case.
