The United States National Basketball Association (NBA) has committed to support the development of the sport in Kenya.

The NBA has announced plans to implement grassroots programmes to nurture talent in the country.

NBA will partner with the Ministry of Sports, Ministry of Education and Kenya Basketball Federation to develop a comprehensive basketball ecosystem.

Met with the Amref Health Africa team led by CEO Dr. Githinji Gitahi to discuss areas of support in improving access to quality healthcare in Bomet.

From the fruitful discussion, we will sign an MOU in two weeks time that will encompass areas of outreach, gender-based violence, emergency response, rehabilitation and nutrition among other areas.

Amref is one of our valued partner and we acknowledge their earlier support of 305 cylinders to Bomet County. It has expressed its readiness to walk with us in enhancing our referral systems and promoting primary healthcare.

Dr Joyce Laboso Mother and Child Wellness Centre which is near completion will also benefit from our engagement with Amref. Residents in Bomet, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Narok and Nakuru will easily access quality healthcare.

"The meeting was also attended by Amref Health Africa's Country Director, Dr Meshack Ndirangu, Director Family and Reproductive Health, Ann Kitimo, Finance Manager, Agnes Mutinda, Programme Manager FP/MBCH & Nutrition Programme, John Kutna, Health CEC Health Dr Joseph Sitonik and CEC Administration Dr Joseph Kirui."

The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition has suspended the anti-government protest that was scheduled to take place on Wednesday this week.

In a statement issued Monday evening, the coalition said instead of taking to the streets they will be holding a vigil by lighting candles and laying flowers for the victims of police brutality during previous demos.
Azimio says so far, 50 deaths have been reported with hundreds of others being injured and are admitted in hospitals with grave injuries.

"Azimio has made the decision that on Wednesday, rather than go to the streets for a peaceful demonstration as earlier announced, we will hold solidarity parades and vigil for victims of police brutality in various locations in all parts of the country," reads the statement.

"We are calling Kenyans to come out and light candles and lay flowers in remembrance of and respect for the victims. During the vigils, candle lighting and laying of flowers, we encourage Kenyans to say prayers and read out the names of the victims of police brutality. We shall provide the list of the victims in time for the exercise."
