Geoffrey Monari, CEO of the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), has assured students that they will receive funding despite delays in the disbursement process. This assurance comes in response to concerns from students who have not yet received their funds while some have already accessed theirs.

HELB has reported that Sh20 billion has been disbursed to universities and Sh7.9 billion to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) trainees. Monari stated, โ€œCurrently, we don't have any problems as we progress into the second semester. We are on track.โ€

However, many students have expressed frustration over the delays, which have disrupted their education. For instance, students are being prevented from registering for exams unless they clear their fees, as highlighted by Isaac Muhia from P.C. Kinyanjui Technical Training Institute. Similarly, Antony Okeyo from Egerton University noted he was at risk of being locked out of the student portal due to lack of funds.

The government has reiterated that no qualifying student will be denied access to classes or services, emphasizing that sufficient funds will be disbursed in due time. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba stated, โ€œWe are doing all we can to ensure that students who need and deserve to be in university will not miss out.โ€

Monari also urged loan defaulters to repay their loans, as these repayments are crucial for financing future students. Previously, HELB disbursements were timed to coincide with the school reopening around August 15.Collodady Ke thanks for your updates
