Dr. Lister Onsongo, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nursing Council of Kenya, has been suspended by the Ministry of Health following revelations that 42 BSc Nursing students were unlawfully submitted for internship placement before completing their academic programs.

Her suspension comes as the Ministry launches a comprehensive audit of all 2,098 Bachelor of Science Nursing interns for the 2025/2026 cohort, amid concerns over widespread regulatory breaches involving ten public and private universities.
