MEET AGEL GARANG AKUEI, THE YOUNGEST LICENSE PILOT FROM SOUTH SUDAN
On December 16, 2025, Agel Garang Akuei earned her Private Pilot License, officially becoming the youngest licensed pilot from South Sudan, a proud and historic moment not just for her, but for her nation and Africa's growing aviation family.
The African Aviation Advocates (A3) community is honored to count Agel among our remarkable young voices shaping the future of African aviation.
Here's what Agel shared with us:
"My name is Agel Garang Akuei, from South Sudan
• I thinkjust being in the sky makes me happy, and I figured being a pilot would fulfill that. I was inspired by watching other captains fly, but my biggest motivation is my late brother, Chris, who once dreamed of becoming a pilot but sadly couldn't fulfill it. I'm flying for him, for me, and for my country.
My aviation journey started last year September 2024 and I finally got my ppl on Dec 16/2025. My PPL journey wasn't the easiest.
I moved far from my family to train in South Africa, instructors leaving mid way, major struggles with the weather conditions, but being the biggest issue i had was self doubt, one bad flight, failed checkride or not the best day at school were times i'd want to quit but with the support system i had and knowing this is a dream that matters to me and i've always cherished, i kept pushing. The struggles are just part of the journey I chose. And through it all, l've held onto faith. God brought me this far, and I know He'll carry me through to the end."
Next year I'll start my Cpl training and Multi engine Rating. I'm so excited and spirited about this coming challenge.
My dream is to one day fly the A320.
