He’s not just riding the Taarab wave, he’s shaping it. Hailing from Mombasa County, with strong musical footprints in Kwale and even as far as Zanzibar, Dogo Jay is steadily becoming a name to reckon with in the modern Taarab music scene.

But what makes Dogo Jay stand out isn’t just his melodious voice or catchy lyrics, it’s his relentless work ethic and a double, life that few can balance. By day, he’s a skilled mason, laying down stones and building homes with finesse and precision. By night, he transforms into a passionate vocalist and songwriter, crafting emotionally resonant songs that speak directly to matters of the heart love, heartbreak, and healing.

“Mchana najenga, usiku naimba,” he told Key TV Kenya. “Ninafaidi vipaji vyangu vyote viwili kwa usawa.”

Dogo Jay’s music journey began in 2014 when he joined the Manusura Band. His unique voice and lyrical depth quickly gained him recognition, leading him to perform with other established bands like Tushauriane Modern Taradance and Zimamoto Modern Taradance. Though internal misunderstandings forced him to go solo, this shift turned out to be a blessing in disguise, liberating him to explore his style and narrative without limits.

Now working independently, Dogo Jay has recorded a number of songs that fuse traditional Taarab flavor with modern, day relevance. His lyrics resonate with listeners across generations, especially youth, thanks to his focus on real-life relationship issues.

1. Wabaya Wangu (his personal favorite)
2. Kivuli Changu
3. Mola Tunusuru
4. Niridhie
5. Moyo
6. Happy Birthday
7. Vipi Yule

Of all his creations, “Wabaya Wangu” stands out. Not only has it become a fan, favorite, but even Dogo Jay admits there’s something special about this song that sets it apart from the rest.

“Ni k**a ilijitunga yenyewe. Kila nikiiimba nahisi nguvu ya tofauti,” he says.

(More Than a Musician)
What makes Dogo Jay exceptional is his vision beyond the stage. He’s a young man rooted in humility, hard work, and a desire to build, not just houses, but a legacy. His story is a reminder that talent is best served with discipline. And with every lyric he writes or wall he builds, he’s cementing his place, both in the world of construction and in the hearts of music lovers.

Follow Dogo Jay as he shapes the future of Swahili music, brick by brick and beat by beat.

Attention to All Mothers and Mothers-to-Be in Kwale County

The Director of Fanikisha Foundation, H.E Christine Mwaka, is kindly advising all expectant mothers to start their antenatal (clinic) visits immediately after confirming they are pregnant.

Early clinic attendance is very important as it allows healthcare providers to monitor the health of both the mother and the unborn baby. This helps in detecting and managing any health risks early, reducing chances of miscarriage, complications, or loss of the baby during delivery.

Dr. Edward Mumbo, a medical advisor and board member at Fanikisha Foundation, has strongly supported this advice. He emphasized that starting antenatal care early is the best way to protect both the mother’s and the baby’s health.

Recent health statistics in Kwale County show that some pregnant women still delay or miss clinic visits due to challenges such as:

1. Lack of reliable transport
2. Financial difficulties
3. Cultural beliefs and traditional practices

We encourage all families, community leaders, and health workers to support and empower our mothers to prioritize early and regular antenatal care.
