Parents and guardians of learners at Moi Forces Academy Lanet have been asked to pick up Grade 10 and Form 3 students today, Wednesday, June 3, 2026, for a short break.

The move follows reported unrest at the school, with claims that some Form 3 girls attempted to burn down the institution. Security personnel were reportedly deployed overnight to restore order.

Several students have alleged that they were physically mistreated during the operation. The claims have not been independently verified, and school management had not issued an official statement at the time of publication.

THE COST OF POLITICAL PATRONAGE

The recent stance taken by Hon. Ernest Kibet, MCA for Kabarnet Ward, refusing to intervene in alcohol-related arrests, has reinforced the fight against alcoholism and substance abuse. In doing so, he is not merely upholding the law; he is exposing a deeply rooted problem in our political and leadership culture.

Why should politicians treat police stations as personal release centers for individuals arrested for drunkenness? Why should leaders constantly rush to bail out drunkards instead of allowing the law and rehabilitation processes to take their course?

The answer is uncomfortable. In some cases, it is about protecting interests tied to the cycle of addiction. In others, it is about maintaining a dependent and politically vulnerable population. A society trapped in alcoholism is easier to manipulate, less likely to demand accountability, and more likely to remain captive to political patronage.

Every time a politician rescues a drunkard from the consequences of their actions, they undermine families struggling with the devastating effects of alcoholism. They send a message to spouses, children, and entire communities that their pain matters less than the political loyalty of the person holding the bottle.

Hon. Ernest Kibet has chosen a different path. He has made it clear that police stations will not become extensions of political offices for managing drunkenness or shielding repeat offenders from accountability. His concern is not political convenience but the development, sobriety, and dignity of the people he serves.

His refusal to interfere is a bold step toward reclaiming the dignity of Kabarnet Ward. It challenges leaders everywhere to decide whether they want to represent a thriving, productive, and conscious society or continue sustaining a broken system for narrow political gain.

Such positions are rarely popular. They attract criticism, resistance, and misunderstanding. Yet genuine leadership is often defined by the willingness to make difficult decisions for the greater good.

Those who have witnessed the destructive effects of alcoholism understand this reality. Too often, an individual is released from custody through political influence, only to return to the same destructive habits, emboldened by the belief that there will always be someone powerful to shield them from consequences.

Leadership is not about protecting wrongdoing. Leadership is about protecting communities.

Viva Hon. Ernest Kibet. May his commitment to truth, accountability, and community transformation continue to inspire positive change as he pursues the vision of becoming Member of Parliament for Baringo Central in 2027.

SPONSORS SOUGHT FOR MCA ASPIRANT'S MOBILITY IN SAIMO SOI WARD, BARINGO NORTH

Aspiring MCA for Saimo Soi Ward, Chemase Chebukati alias "Mr. Shembul," has made a light-hearted appeal to sponsors and well-wishers to consider donating a reliable 4x4 machine to help him navigate the vast and rugged terrain of Saimo Soi Ward in Baringo North Constituency.

With its expansive landscape, rough roads, and hard-to-reach villages, Saimo Soi presents unique mobility challenges for leaders seeking to engage residents across every corner of the ward.

Mr. Shembul says a sturdy four-wheel-drive vehicle would enable him to move more efficiently, interact with wananchi, and keep pace with the demands of grassroots leadership.

Interested sponsors and well-wishers can reach him on:

03/06/2026

I have taken time to think about whatever Masaa wrote on his social media page and even gave him time maybe he will delete it after a few days as he usually does, but am deeply troubled by the. fact that it seems it is an aggressive political discourse he has chosen or is a message from the candidate Rebby Chepchumba Sebei

Labeling a political race "kufa kupona" is inherently dangerous because it means use of all means to force her election. For those of us in Baringo, this language is not just a figure of speech; it is deeply triggering. It reminds us of the horrific wounds we suffered at the hands of bandits who used the same Kufa kupona' mentality on banditry and catlle rustling, and which has costed us the lives of thousands of our people and their livelihoods. Do not remind us our pains please.

What is perhaps most concerning is the silence from the candidate herself. If Rebby truly believes in a fair, free, and democratic election, she should have immediately condemned this language. By failing to denounce these tactics, she implicitly condones them. This conduct should be flagged as a red flag, as it is clearly intended to coerce voters and intimidate other candidates. We must ask: is she funding Masaa to inject fear into the race to secure an unfair advantage?

Furthermore, the public declaration of a "3M" campaign fund, coupled with this "do or die" pressure, shifts the focus entirely toward intimidation and financial bravado. When a supporter pushes a candidate with such unexplained intensity, it raises serious questions about the hidden interests being protected. Any candidate surrounded by or silent about proxies who promote this kind of volatility and use funding to manipulate the electorate should flagged by the people, IEBC, NCIC, and EACC the projection of power, threats, or the use of proxies to manipulate the political environment.

Because of this shift toward exclusionary and manipulative scheme politics, many of us who had genuine intentions to support this candidacy are now stepping back. We are compelled to look for candidates who value free, respectful, and open opinion rather than those who foster an environment of pressure, ultimatums, and coercive tactics.

Politics should be a contest of ideas that respects our traditions and the dignity of our people. I urge all political actors and their supporters to move away from this dangerous rhetoric already projected by Masaa Kibet . I will continue to hold ever candidate to the standard of accountability our county deserves with the sole aim to seek out and support leadership that prioritizes the unity, maturity, and peaceful democratic space that Baringo truly deserves.

I want to remind Rebby to hold her dogs in it's kernel because if not, they are destroying whatever had been build forthwith.

Lastly, since you are the Director at NRT, we owe you thousands of questions in regard to this NRT with which we had problems with in Saimo-soi and. parts of Baringo West. One, the great people of Saimo-soi are worried that once you are elected as women Rep, their lands which they have defended for long will be at stake and easily available for the NRT or whosoever had interest in.

So Rebby you should used people like Masaa to deliver such messages than vomiting on us. Nonetheless, nfact you should pitch tent in entire Saimo-soi and let them unhook their worries otherwise be assured of zero vote.

Until Rebby condemns this stupid talk by Masaa, be assured hiyo kiti utaonea Viusasa. #
