IT'S UNFORTUNATE.
At a time when millions of Kenyans are struggling with the high cost of living, job losses, and heavy taxation, the State House budget is set to more than double if Members of Parliament approve the revised estimates.
According to reports by Nation Media Group through the Daily Nation, an additional Sh8.4 billion has been proposed for State House Nairobi, pushing the total allocation from Sh7.7 billion to Sh16.1 billion for the 2025/26 financial year.
Breakdown of the proposed increases:
Total State House budget:
Sh7.7 Billion → Sh16.1 Billion
State House Nairobi operations:
Sh6 Billion → Sh14 Billion
Purchase of new vehicles:
Sh6.9 Million → Sh141 Million
Domestic travel:
Sh376 Million → Sh2 Billion
Hospitality expenses:
Sh338 Million → Sh1.6 Billion
Fuel costs:
Sh191 Million → Sh600 Million
Vehicle maintenance:
Sh136 Million → Sh530 Million
This proposed increase raises serious questions about government priorities at a time when ordinary citizens are being asked to tighten their belts and endure more taxes.
