A confusing, shocking story of how my car was clamped in Mombasa County while, in a real sense, parked in Kajiado County, and its driver was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Like how?
Let me explain.
The Mombasa parking attendant approached me and prompted me to pay the parking fees.
Before I could ask how much, she informed me that I had an outstanding debt from the previous year.
Wait? What debt? She told me that in 2024, my car was clamped in Mombasa due to non-payment of parking fees.
Mombasa, you said? Yes. Ma'am. But this car is not based in Mombasa. It was not in Mombasa last year. It is actually doing its Tembea Kenya Errands at the moment.
I asked to see the message, and true to her words. I owe them 1200. How? She asked me, 'Did you buy the car in Mombasa?' I said no. And even if I bought it in Mombasa, it wasn't there last year.
Just in case, I had forgotten my 2024 movement? I checked my calendar and was shocked at what I saw. On the specified date, the car was clamped, I can tell you that the car was parked in Kajiado County. On the said date, they clamped the car; I, its dedicated driver, was in Malaysia.
So, how did my car end up in their system and clamping records? Who clamped it to start with? How did they do it? Miracles? I wonder!
Now, it even gets better. It's interesting that the date the car was clamped, in 2024, was the exact date in 2025 when the occurrence happened. Exactly one year later. Same date, Same month.
Mombasa County? Over to you. Do I share a number plate with someone based in Mombasa?
