The National Youth Council (NYC) elections will proceed! This crucial exercise reaffirms Kenya's commitment to youth empowerment and democratic inclusion.
Key Information from the PS:
1. The NYC elections were previously postponed but are now back on track after the Cabinet approved a memorandum to hold them.
2. The election process will involve nominations, followed by Ward Level Elections (youth in each ward vote for 6 leaders - 3 male, 3 female, resulting in 8,700 Ward Delegates nationwide).
3. These Ward Delegates will then elect Constituency Delegates (1 male, 1 female from each constituency, totaling 580) to represent their region at the National Youth Congress.
4. Finally, the National Youth Congress will elect 8 Council Members and nominate up to 8 others to be appointed by the Cabinet Secretary. Additionally, 31 substitute members will be nominated.
Eligibility Requirements for Youth:
* Under 35 years old on 31st December of the election year.
* At least a secondary/high school certificate.
* Police clearance certificate or recommendation from area Chief.
* Meet Chapter 6 of the constitution on leadership and integrity.
* Consideration for People living with disability.
