ROLE OF KABRAS LEADERSHIP RITES AND TRADITION IN MALAVA PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS

Prior to 1979 General Election Bashu gave their grandson Joshua Angatia son of their blood nephew Daudi Mulanda omusamo a four legged stool (sh*tiene) and scepter baton thereby coronating him as their leader onwards.

Angatia proceeded to win the election of MP Lurambi North that year.

This 2025 Bashu have done the same for Nelson Shilunji Taliti by handing him sh*tiene, baton and coronated him as their leader and candidate for the next bye election of Malava parliamentary seat.

In our Kabras community where tradition still holds sway in leadership matters what impact does this symbolic rite leave David Ndakwa and Leonard Shimaka? Are the two aspirants in the race their clan's blessings?

Oracle of Teremi Strategic Research Bureau shall be delving into significance of Kabras leadership rites and clan mobilisation in Malava Constituency parliamentary elections since 1963 to date. Endeavour to join us.

Some in Kabras think that the late former cabinet minister and Malava MP Peter Soita Sh*tanda was named after the late Chief of North Kabras Philip Soita Washiko.

No he was not. He was named after his maternal great grandfather Soita omumakhuli who owned the vast land of Namarambi near Misikhu.

Hon Soita's mother was called Nasumbu, daughter of Joel Waluchio grand daughter of Soita omumakhuli.

Joel Waluchio and his brother Kefa Sakari were among the earliest converts to Quaker faith at Lugulu Mission under Jefferson and his wife Hellen Ford.

However Waluchio and his brother Sakari would die at the young age in 1937 and 1939 respectively. It is recounted that during one of their journey to Nyanza along the way they bathed in some river from which they contracted a mysterious disease which killed them.

That Waluchio's widow one Risper omuliuli was inherited by one Festo from Kabras. It was during her stay in Kabras with her children that Soita's mother would marry Peter Sh*tanda Avakalwa omushivika with whom she had several children with including the late Hon Peter Soita Sh*tanda.
