Last year September i started the THE REFUGEE GROWTH TALKS channel to be sharing some tips and inspirations that i have accumulated with other fellow refugees for inspirations and carrier growths as i feel the major challenge affecting many youths and in particular refugee youth is lack of direction and in ability to decide what carrier they want and follow it up. In the channel, we talk about Higher education, Pursuing talents, entrepreneurship, technical and hard skills that are on demand and women empowerment. I indeed recorded some videos' talking about those areas focusing in the Kenyan context and i got many good feedback that is pushing me toward doing this work. This year i made a commitment to engage the refugee youths in Kakuma in person and not only through my videos'. The sessions will basically focus on giving directions on the different carrier paths, help them decided there passions , search for local and international opportunities and pursuing them. Moreover keep close monitoring and Evaluation to ensure they do something. Before i do that to the entire youths in the camp, Today i decided its good i start form my home first then go out with a structured content. its Sunday today but instead i have meet my siblings and my neighbors for what i call mentoring an direction session and i am glad that they enjoyed the session. we focused on this topics today:-
1. challenges facing youths in not finding direction in life especially after high school
2. carrier paths they can pursue
3. Local opportunities they can utilize
4. How to search for opportunities outside the camp
5. and some common and important skills they need to possess i.e good communication
In our next session, they will come up with there identified path they want to pursue, local opportunities they will start with and any challenges they foresee affecting them in there journey. That will mark the start of there monitoring session, as i will be following up with them to ensure they did not attend the session for enjoyment only but meant what they come up with.
From then i will move to have sessions in the areas of the camp starting with my area. Looking forward to any collaboration and support in creating huge impact with my new journey. lookout for the next public session to register or share with someone who will benefit
