*IG Kanja at 2!*
*Achievements and* *Transformation since* *Inspector* *General of Police took* *office.*
*Inspector General Mr. Douglas Kanja Kirocho, MGH, CBS, OGW*
Mr. Douglas Kanja Kirocho assumed office on 19th September 2024, as the 5th IG under 2010 Constitution. Official style: *Mr. Douglas Kanja Kirocho, MGH, CBS, OGW* [MGH awarded 20th Oct 2024, CBS Dec 2023, EBS Dec 2019, OGW Dec 2010].
*These are great achievements as a guide for one to have been in office for a very short time, putting in mind the country was in crisis and critics all over.*
*1. Major Structural Reforms:* Through Legal Notice No. 138 of 30th July 2026, he repealed old orders and gazetted new formations including Nairobi Metropolitan Police, Quick Response Unit, Marine Unit, and Judiciary Police Unit - a bold move to make policing more responsive and specialized.
*2. Modernization:* Shift to intelligence-led policing, modernisation of forensic laboratories and establishment of specialized units.
*3. Security Improvement:* Interior PS Dr. Raymond Omollo lauded the Service under his stewardship for marked decline in insecurity including significant reduction in banditry.
*4. Infrastructure:* Commissioned Chiga police station n many others including introduction of CCTV cameras in all police stations. This is an ongoing exercise under the IC4 programme which also brings on board the Digital OB. Chiga is the third brand-new station in Kisumu East within 18 months built through Kisumu East NG-CDF under MP Shakeel Shabbir. Nationally, NG-CDF Board Chairman Olago Aluoch noted that NG-CDF has invested over Sh 1.8 billion over the last two financial years in construction of police stations, posts, chiefs' camps and administration offices countrywide to support security.
*5. Mobility:* Acknowledged logistical gaps and affirmed government commitment to acquire 3,000 new police vehicles to boost operations.
*6. Recruitment of New Officers - Core Mandate Achieved:*
In his mandate as Inspector General, he oversaw the first police recruitment in four years after a long court battle.
- On *17th November 2025*, NPS recruited *10,000 police constables* across 427 centres nationwide.
- On *30th October 2025*, Employment and Labour Relations Court ruled recruitment is constitutional function of National Police Service under IG.
- On *16th December 2025*, IG Kanja officially opened Basic Recruit Training Course No. 1/2025 at National Police College Main Campus, Kiganjo.
*7. Police Welfare:*
"The welfare of officers is central to morale, productivity and integrity" - IG Kanja.
- Housing: Pushing return of housing to within stations, welcomed 20% affordable housing reserve for police, targeting 88 units Bombolulu and 100 Makande, opened CBK Police Housing Complex 3rd June 2025 with President.
- Salary: Confirmed increment effective July 2026 under Maraga Taskforce. Govt says 50% of Maraga recommendations implemented.
- Dignity: Rollout of new uniform including first-ever maternity working uniform.
*8. Handling of Funds and Integrity:*
*There is NO verifiable audit report or court finding that IG Douglas Kanja Kirocho has misused NPS funds.* On contrary, EACC systems audit at Embakasi was presided over by EACC Chair and IG Kanja himself, commissioned by IG to seal corruption loopholes.
