In the old days, when Pokot wanted to pick a leader (chief), first they would ask neighbours how the person stays with neighbours, how he receives visitors and how he runs affairs of his home.
Secondly, they will send people to visit the person's home and do assessments.
They will assess:
1. The condition of the wives and children
2. The body conditions of dogs and cats
3. Fencing of the home and layout
4. Number of livestock and how they are cared for
5. How visitors are received and feed
6. How does he handle misunderstandings at home
The reason for doing these is that there's a direct correlation on how one carries the affairs of his home and how he would carry out the affairs of the community.
A lazy, none caring, brutal, mean, greedy, envious, etc. person at his home will transfer the same behaviour to the running of the state, constituency, or ward. Likewise, a generous, hardworking, well-mannered, respectful, etc. person at his home will do the same outside his home.
Next time, before choosing a leader, don't listen to what he or she tells you. Do thorougher research on his home
