๐ŸŸ๏ธMasinde Muliroโ€“Kanduyi Stadium Nears Completion as Major Redevelopment Hits 94%

The rehabilitation and full-envelope facelift of the Masinde Muliroโ€“Kanduyi Stadium in Bungoma County is entering its final lap, with cumulative project ex*****on at 94% and roofing installation now at an advanced stage.

This upgrade is repositioning the facility into a contemporary, code-compliant, multipurpose arena, engineered to host high-calibre competitions and anchor a more structured sports-development ecosystem in the region.

Upon commissioning, the stadium will provide athletes and youth with a fit-for-purpose, professionally serviced training and competition environment, unlocking a pipeline for long-term career progression.

Beyond performance, the project is projected to elevate Bungomaโ€™s stature as a nationally competitive sports destination, expanding opportunities for talent scouting, grassroots development, and community integration through sport.

Kenyaโ€™s engineering profession is entering a new era of digital accountability.

The Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) has confirmed that all engineers will soon be required to register their projects online and obtain a unique identification number BEFORE submitting drawings to county authorities.

This move directly targets the long-standing challenges of non-compliant buildings, safety lapses, poor workmanship, and irregular approval pathways โ€” issues often linked to unqualified practitioners and weak project supervision.

What the New Requirement Means

According to EBK CEO Eng. Margaret Ogai

โ–ช๏ธEngineers must log every project into the new Engineers Project Registration Portal

โ–ช๏ธEach project will receive a unique identification number (UIN)

โ–ช๏ธNo drawings will be accepted by counties without this UIN

โ–ช๏ธThe system creates traceability from design to supervision

This positions the portal as a mandatory compliance gateway for all engineering-related approvals across Kenya.

Strengthening Oversight Through Collaboration

The Board has already established information-sharing agreements with:

NCA (National Construction Authority)

Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors (BORAQS) - Kenya

This collaboration will allow regulators to verify whether a building is:
โœ” Properly designed
โœ” Properly supervised
โœ” Managed by registered professionals

A unified oversight ecosystem is now taking shape.

Industry Leaders Back the Reforms

Speaking during The Association of Consulting Engineers of Kenya ( ACEK ) annual dinner, industry leaders underscored the need for:

โ–ช๏ธStronger technical training

โ–ช๏ธHigh-quality design standards

โ–ช๏ธEnhanced mentorship for engineering students

โ–ช๏ธDesign practices that prioritise safety, resilience, and longevity

Their message was clear: excellence begins at design stage and must be enforced through competent oversight.

Defence Ministry Breaks Ground on New Hospital Wing and Stadium in Nandi County

The Ministry of Defence (MoD), under the leadership of Soipan Tuya, today officially launched two major infrastructure projects in Nandi County: the expansion of Kapsabet County Referral Hospital and the construction of the proposed Kipchoge Keino Kapsabet Stadium. The event was attended by county and national leadership, including Nandi County Governor Stephen Sang and MoD Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru.

Hospital Expansion to Meet Mounting Health Needs

The new hospital block at Kapsabet is designed to significantly expand capacity, improve infrastructure, and introduce specialized care services โ€” with emphasis on maternal and child health. Officials say the upgrade will bolster access to quality healthcare for residents of Nandi County and surrounding areas, reduce pressure on referrals, and improve overall service delivery.

Modern Stadium to Spur Sports and Economic Growth

Meanwhile, the proposed stadium at Kapsabet is envisioned as a modern sports facility that will nurture local athletic talent, promote youth development, and stimulate regional economic growth. Given Nandi Countyโ€™s legacy as a cradle of champions, the project is expected to provide athletes with world-class training and competition facilities.

Defence Ministry Assumes Oversight

During the ceremony, CS Tuya reiterated the MoDโ€™s commitment to delivering the projects โ€” through the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) โ€” with full oversight to ensure they are completed to high standards, within budget, and on schedule. She also thanked the local community for its support, while Governor Sang pledged the countyโ€™s cooperation.

Collaboration Across Sectors

The success of the projects will depend on close cooperation between MoD, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Sports, and the Nandi County government. Local leaders, Members of Parliament, and defence project officers were present at the groundbreaking โ€” signalling broad stakeholder alignment.

Farewell to a legend.

Frank Gehry, the visionary behind the Guggenheim Bilbao and Walt Disney Concert Hall, has passed away at 96.

His bold, sculptural designs reshaped skylines and proved that architecture can transform entire cities. From titanium curves to groundbreaking digital modelling, Gehry changed how the world builds.

A true innovator whose legacy will stand for generations. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธโœจ
