Peter Mbiyu Koinange (1907–1981) was a prominent Kenyan politician, educationist, and close ally of founding President Jomo Kenyatta. Born in Kiambu to Senior Chief Koinange wa Mbiyu, he was among the first Kenyans to study abroad, attending institutions in the United States and the United Kingdom. Upon returning, he championed African-led education through the Githunguri Independent School, resisting colonial control over learning. A key member of the Kenya African Union, Koinange played an important role in the nationalist movement and later served as Minister of State in the Office of the President from 1966 to 1979, wielding significant political influence during Kenyatta’s administration. Known for his loyalty to Kenyatta, he was often associated with the so-called “Kiambu Mafia,” a group of powerful politicians from the president’s home region. After Kenyatta’s death, his political clout diminished under Daniel arap Moi’s government, and he died in 1981.

The world is now a global tech hub, and Kenya must never have been left behind in the great idea, not an inch behind.

I have spent a splendid day in the Silicon Valley, firsthand the most creative tech innovations and interacting with the best tech minds in the world.

I spent quality time at Google before taking a memorable ride in an AI-driven jaguar limousine.

My visit to Meta company, the home of Facebook, Instragram, WhatsApp, and Thread, was fascinating and breathtaking.

Mark Zuckerberg founded the company at the age of 19 while in college and has built the Meta Platforms to a net worth of USD 1.92T in 2025.

I was happy to find 35 young Kenyans in senior positions at the heart of the various innovations. Listening to them and the great ideas they have on ICT development.

I must say I have a pretty good idea where to look for skills mix and our Kenyan GenZs who are brilliant and tech-savvy when recruiting personnel to help us reboot the Ministry of ICT back home in the 6th Administration come 2027.
