Luos, Listen to This Message
For decades, we have stood at the forefront of Kenya’s political struggles. Since independence, our community has carried the torch for democracy and justice. We remember Mzee Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, who worked alongside Jomo Kenyatta as the first Vice President. Their agreement that he would eventually ascend to the presidency never came to pass , tulichezwa.
After Jaramogi, the mantle of leadership was passed to Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga, who for years has carried the hopes of our community and fought tirelessly for democracy in Kenya. As Luos, we have been loyal, steadfast, and united behind Baba. Anyone who attempted to rise with a different opinion outside his shadow was often branded a traitor.
This loyalty and love for Baba Raila Odinga is why, today, the Luo community largely supports the broad-based government , because Baba has said so. But as discussions on generational change continue, we must ask ourselves: what happens after Baba?
If the Raila–Ruto agreement holds till 2027 and Ruto becomes a two-term president with ODM–UDA forming government until 2032, both Raila Odinga and William Samoei Ruto will no longer be central players in the 2032 elections. That moment will bring forth new blood and new faces from across the country. The question is , where will the Luo community stand when that time comes?
We are blessed as a people. We already have a head start with youthful, visionary leaders emerging. Hon. Babu Owino is increasingly being embraced nationally, while PS Dr. Raymond Omollo , though more administrative in nature, is reshaping our community with impactful community engagements and Charity activities.These are glimpses of the leadership potential our region carries.
The real task before us is clear:
✅ How do we groom these youthful leaders to shine beyond Luo Nyanza?
✅ How do we prepare them to compete at the highest level in 2032 and beyond?
✅ How do we ensure the Luo voice remains relevant in Kenya’s future leadership?
Brothers and sisters, tomorrow starts with today. We must return to the drawing board and strategize wisely. The ball is already in our hands.
Where youthful, transparent, development-oriented, and focused leaders are being mentioned, Babu Owino stands out as number one. Instead of tearing him down with unnecessary negativity, let us uplift and prepare him ,because he represents the next phase of our struggle and our hope for national leadership.
The time to prepare for the future is now. ✊
