🧵 anonymous:
i found out a coworker doing the same job as me is making $18k more. same title. same responsibilities. been here longer than him too.
didn't find out through HR. found out because he left his offer letter on the printer and walked away. just sitting there. in the tray. like a sign from god.
went to my manager the next day. calm. professional. had my numbers ready, my wins documented, everything. she said "compensation is based on a lot of factors" and offered me a $1,500 bump.
$1,500. annually. that's $125 a month before taxes.
i smiled and said i'd think about it. went back to my desk and started applying from my work laptop out of spite.
the thing that gets me is i never complained. never called out. covered for teammates, stayed late, delivered every single time. thought being solid would speak for itself.
it don't. loyalty without leverage is just free labor.
nobody's gonna advocate for you in that room bro. not your manager, not HR, not the company that puts "people first" in the mission statement.
you gotta do it yourself. and if they won't meet you right, you take your skills somewhere that will.
i got an offer last week. 22k more. accepted it this morning.
turned in my notice this afternoon. two weeks. professional. no speech. just gone.
know your worth and then add tax.
