🎬 Kenyan Drama Series: “Broken Promises”
Episode 1: The Price of Ambition
The sun was setting over Nairobi’s skyline, casting golden light through the glass windows of a tall office building in Upper Hill. Inside, Daniel Otieno, a mid-level manager in a fast-growing company, sat nervously at his desk. His phone buzzed—it was a message from his boss.
> Boss (Janet): “Come to my office. Now.”
Daniel adjusted his tie and walked toward the executive office. He knew Janet—confident, powerful, and used to getting what she wanted.
He knocked.
> Janet: “Come in, Daniel.”
She was standing by the window, holding a glass of wine.
> Janet: “You’ve been doing impressive work… very impressive.”
> Daniel: “Thank you, madam. I’ve been trying my best.”
She smiled, slowly walking closer.
> Janet: “Trying isn’t enough in this world. You either rise… or remain ordinary.”
Daniel swallowed hard.
> Daniel: “I want to rise.”
She placed a hand gently on his shoulder.
> Janet: “Then you must be ready to make… certain decisions.”
A silence filled the room. Daniel knew exactly what she meant.
> Daniel: “What kind of decisions?”
She leaned closer, her voice dropping.
> Janet: “Loyalty, Daniel. Not just in work… but to me.”
Daniel hesitated. Images of his wife, Akinyi, flashed in his mind—pregnant, tired, yet always smiling. Their four children laughing in their small home.
But then, another image appeared—money, promotions, a better life.
> Janet: “I can change your life. Promotions, money, power… everything you’ve ever wanted.”
She paused.
> Janet: “But nothing comes for free.”
Daniel looked down, conflicted.
> Daniel (softly): “…And if I say yes?”
Janet smiled.
> Janet: “Then your struggles end.”
After a long silence, Daniel nodded.
> Daniel: “I’m tired of struggling.”
That night marked the beginning of his fall.

Days Later…
Daniel’s life changed overnight. A promotion, a new car, expensive suits—everything came fast. But at home, things began to fall apart.
Akinyi noticed.
One evening, she confronted him as he walked in late.
> Akinyi: “Daniel, where have you been? You don’t come home anymore.”
> Daniel: “I’m working. That’s what you wanted, right? A better life?”
> Akinyi: “Not like this! The children miss you. I miss you.”
She held her belly, wincing slightly.
> Akinyi: “I’m carrying your child, Daniel… and I feel like I’m doing this alone.”
Daniel looked away, irritated.
> Daniel: “You don’t understand the pressure I’m under.”
> Akinyi: “Then help me understand! Talk to me!”
He snapped.
> Daniel: “There’s nothing to talk about!”
Silence filled the room.
> Akinyi (teary): “Is there someone else?”
Daniel hesitated—just for a second.
> Akinyi: “Daniel… answer me.”
> Daniel (coldly): “Yes.”
Akinyi stepped back as if struck.
> Akinyi: “You’re lying…”
> Daniel: “I’m not. And I’m not going to apologize for wanting a better life.”
Tears rolled down her face.
> Akinyi: “So your family is not enough?”
> Daniel: “Love doesn’t pay bills, Akinyi."
That broke her.
> Akinyi: “We built this life together… from nothing.”
> Daniel: “And I’m building something bigger now. With or without you.”
The children watched silently from the corner, confused and scared.
> Akinyi (voice shaking): “So what happens to us?”
Daniel picked up his car keys.
> Daniel: “You’ll figure it out.”
> Akinyi: “I’m pregnant, Daniel… we have four children!”
He paused at the door but didn’t turn back.
> Daniel: “I’ve made my choice.”
The door slammed.
Akinyi sank to the floor, holding her stomach as her children rushed to her side.
> Child: “Mum… is dad coming back?”
She forced a weak smile through her tears.
> Akinyi: “I don’t know, my child… I don’t know.”
Outside, Daniel drove off into the night—toward wealth, power… and a future he didn’t yet understand would cost him everything.
