OPINION:
This vaccination exercise is a missed opportunity at great communication and seamless ex*****on.
Farmers are being talked AT as opposed to being talked TO and understandably, their antennae are raised high in prime suspicion.
It would have been helpful to:
1. Contextualize the problem. Why are we vaccinating?
We haven’t had a national vaccination campaign for a few good years.
This has led to farmers losing their stock and suspect quality of meat hitting the market posing health risks. The poorer the quality of meat, the lesser the returns.
2. What are we Vaxxing against?
The lack of this clarity on this has led to an information gap which has been gleefully filled by propaganda.
If we aren’t vaccinating against mnyambo, what are we preventing? Come out clearly on this and message it in a simple and consistent manner.
3. Ex*****on.
The populace has little trust and patience with the executive at the moment. Everything is viewed through a highly suspicious lens.
Why not launch the exercise is Nairobi and let it be run by the devolved units, most of whom have SCAOS and WAOS highly trusted and respected by the locals?
The insistence to continue on the same path despite strong opposition is self defeating. Pivot!
Own goals are being scored with careless abandon.
