We have captured amazing images of Kitale, showing how beautiful our town is. Well, welcome to the other side of Kitale! How does it look? This is not a sight in the back street or from the ghetto, it is beside the main Kitale Suam Road along Railways. Just how high does the environment department want that heap of waste to go before it is collected? The presence of waste and thriving of street families are joined at the waist.
We did some digging and apparently, for the past 2 financial years there hasnt been a single penny allocated to deal with street families either under social services or municipality. The dilemma then is, even if they are rounded up, where do we take them? A rescue center was constructed by the previous regime somewhere in Kwanza but without a budget, the facility is not operational, and street families cannot be sustained there.
Just how complicated is this issue of street families or is someone benefiting from their presence on the streets?
The National government Childrens Department, Department of social services under County Government of Trans Nzoia and the police have decided, street families are going to be part of Kitales beautification. Sisi ni nani tukatae? Welcome to the other side.
