WATER SUPPLY PROJECT SET TO TRANSFORM KORINYANG AND KALEMGOROK COMMUNITIES.
The residents of Korinyang and Kalemungorok in Katilu Ward are on the cusp of a significant breakthrough with the upcoming water supply project. This initiative, spearheaded by the County Government's water access program under the Drought Resilience Program for Northern Kenya, aims to alleviate the long-standing water scarcity issues in the area. The drilling of the water supply, designed to accommodate 90,000 liters of water, will commence promptly upon the site's handover to the contractor.
Addressing stakeholders at the site, Chief Officer for Agriculture and Land Reclamation, David Maraka, emphasized the consultative approach undertaken in the decision-making process, guided by evidence provided by the Sub County Water Office. He underscored the department's commitment to the full implementation of all projects slated for the 2025–2026 period and instructed the contractor to expedite the process, targeting completion within four months to meet community demand.
Aroo Sub-County Administrator Lomodei Ewoi expressed optimism about the project, citing its potential to alleviate the strain on the existing water supply point and significantly reduce the travel distance for locals by up to 2 kilometers.
"Our people have endured hardships, often having to travel long distances. This water supply will provide much-needed relief." Ward Administrator Kotol added.
Project Coordinator Ekeno Charles assured that continuous project monitoring exercises will be conducted throughout the construction phase to ensure adherence to standards and completion of all components.
A Project Management Committee (PMC) was elected during the public gathering meeting, tasked with offering a smooth working environment to the contractor and representing the community in the project implementation process.
The site's handover was attended by Eng. Kibet Chepkwony, Lennon Benard - Assistant Director and CIT chair, residents, marking a crucial step towards bringing this vital project to life benefiting.
