HON.DR LEAH AUDAN LOKALA
MAY 11TH, 2026. NADOTO VILLAGE IN KERIO DELTA WARD.

I had the opportunity to accompany my boss, His Excellency Dr. Jeremiah Ekamais Napotikan, to an event focused on youth and women empowerment. The event was held at Nadoto Village, located in Kerio Delta Ward.

This gathering aimed to promote the advancement and empowerment of young people and women in the community, providing them with valuable resources, support, and inspiration to enhance their social and economic well-being.

It was a meaningful occasion that highlighted the importance of inclusive development and the role of leadership in fostering positive change.

PUBLIC CONCERN: IMPROPER DISPOSAL OF MEDICAL WASTE IN LOKICHAR.

‎We are deeply concerned and saddened by the improper disposal of hazardous medical waste including used syringes, needles, malaria and HIV testing materials by clinics operating within Lokichar Town.

‎These dangerous materials have been discovered carelessly dumped along Nawoyatira Road, particularly on the route leading to Lokichar Barasa Park, RCEA Lokichar, and Lokichar Mixed Primary School.

‎This act is not only irresponsible but also inhuman and criminal. The affected area is frequently used by children on their way to school and as a playground. Such exposure puts their health and lives at serious risk, including infections and injuries.

‎We strongly condemn this behavior and call upon the relevant authorities to take immediate action:
‎Investigate and identify the responsible clinics.

‎1.Enforce strict medical waste disposal regulations.

‎2.Ensure safe collection and disposal of all hazardous materials.

‎Protect the community, especially our children, from further risk.

‎Our community deserves a safe and healthy environment. We cannot and will not remain silent while lives are endangered.

‎We urge immediate intervention from:

‎•Turkana County Health Offices
‎•Turkana County Public Health Department
‎•Turkana South DCC Office
‎•Lokichar Chief’s Office

Dear MCA, Mama NI moja, a baraza for relief food distribution is not a political rally. When people gather because of hunger, they are not there to listen to political attacks or campaign speeches. They are there because their families need food. This is the time to speak about,

• Sustainable food security
• Irrigation and water projects
• Support for pastoralists
• Accountability on stalled projects

Hunger is not political. It is a serious crisis affecting mothers, children, and the elderly. Please respect the purpose of the meeting. Let relief barazas remain about relief and let development conversations focus on real solutions for Turkana. Our people deserve dignity, not politics.

Prof. John Krop Lonyang'apuo, PhD has argued that water, as a natural resource, should benefit the people of West Pokot in the same way that oil benefits Turkana County. He pointed out that Turkana receives 2.5% of oil sales revenue and called for West Pokot to get an equivalent share from the Turkwel water supplied for extracting oil from the Lokichar wells.
