PUBLIC CONCERN: IMPROPER DISPOSAL OF MEDICAL WASTE IN LOKICHAR.
We are deeply concerned and saddened by the improper disposal of hazardous medical waste including used syringes, needles, malaria and HIV testing materials by clinics operating within Lokichar Town.
These dangerous materials have been discovered carelessly dumped along Nawoyatira Road, particularly on the route leading to Lokichar Barasa Park, RCEA Lokichar, and Lokichar Mixed Primary School.
This act is not only irresponsible but also inhuman and criminal. The affected area is frequently used by children on their way to school and as a playground. Such exposure puts their health and lives at serious risk, including infections and injuries.
We strongly condemn this behavior and call upon the relevant authorities to take immediate action:
Investigate and identify the responsible clinics.
1.Enforce strict medical waste disposal regulations.
2.Ensure safe collection and disposal of all hazardous materials.
Protect the community, especially our children, from further risk.
Our community deserves a safe and healthy environment. We cannot and will not remain silent while lives are endangered.
We urge immediate intervention from:
•Turkana County Health Offices
•Turkana County Public Health Department
•Turkana South DCC Office
•Lokichar Chief’s Office
