IS INDUCTION MORE PAINFUL THAN NATURAL LABOUR?
A lot of mothers say “Induction is more painful than natural labour.”
Let’s break it down,
First, for those who don’t know — Induction of labour is when labour is started artificially, usually when pregnancy has reached term but labour refuses to start on its own.
Now, here’s the difference:
✅ Natural Labour:
Your body produces its own oxytocin (the hormone that makes the womb contract).
As contractions come, the brain releases endorphins — natural painkillers that help you cope.
Labour usually starts gently — contractions are short, spaced out, and build up gradually.
✅ Induced Labour:
Artificial oxytocin (drip medicine) is given to make the womb contract.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t trigger your brain to release those natural painkillers.
Pain starts immediately and feels more intense because your body hasn’t had time to adjust.
That’s why many mothers feel induced labour is “🔥🔥🔥” compared to natural labour.
But remember 👉🏾 Induction is sometimes necessary when the pregnancy must be ended for the safety of the mother or baby.
⚠️ It doesn’t always succeed — if it fails, you may end up needing a cesarean section.
⚠️ If you had a cesarean before, some hospitals may not induce you at all.
So yes, induction is often more painful, but it can be life-saving.
And no, having an induction once doesn’t mean you’ll be induced again in your next pregnancy.
Meanwhile your baby’s reaction after induction 😒👇🏾
“Nurse, abeg no try this nonsense again.” 😂
