"Mtusaidie tuokoe ndugu zetu waliokwama ndani ya gorge," Artisanal miners breaks down in tears, appeals for urgent humanitarian assistance to rescue more than six colleagues trapped inside a 700-foot-deep gold mine in Naduat, Nakalale Ward.

Five days into the rescue operation, efforts to reach the trapped miners are being hampered by a shortage of manpower, food, water and essential equipment.

Local residents, including a survivor of the incident, have recounted the ordeal and the challenges facing the rescue teams. Volunteers say they are exhausted after working for days with limited support, with some forced to leave the site.

Residents are now appealing to well-wishers to intervene and support ongoing efforts to rescue the artisanal miners trapped deep inside the mine.

She has confirmed that she is alive and has now been discharged from the hospital.

When his story came to light around 2022, amidst the onset of COVID-19, a relative of Nicodemus Emus Lochok reached out to us, informing us of the tribulations their kin is experiencing in the United States, which have left him destitute and homeless.

One of our correspondents managed to obtain contact details for Emus to facilitate clarification on the matter. The information provided at that time was limited. However, one detail we managed to ascertain was his contentious separation from his wife, Rennee Emus, whom he married around 2019.

The woman, believed to be on a church mission in Turkana, fell in love with Emus, a Turkwel Boys alumnus of the class of 2015. Subsequently, she facilitated the processing of his passport, and they migrated to the United States.

The two partners have two children. In the early stages of their relationship, they appeared to be consistently happy, but in 2022, Emus announced on his Facebook account that they had separated, and that his wife had paid for counseling services in an attempt to reconcile.

As of 2026, news regarding Nicodemus Emus's deplorable state has resurfaced.

His condition as a homeless individual urgently requires attention, particularly from Kenya and the Turkana community.

Any assistance provided to him would contribute significantly to the possibility of reuniting him with his family.

LOIMA POLITICS: The 2027 Loima political landscape is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched contests in Turkana County as longtime friends turned political rivals, Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai and Loima MP Protus Akujah, prepare to face off once again.

The two politicians first squared off in the 2017 General Election for the Loima parliamentary seat, where Jeremiah Lomorukai defeated the then-incumbent MP, Protus Akujah.

Akujah, however, staged a political comeback in the 2022 General Election, reclaiming the Loima MP seat after defeating Dr. Michael Eregae, who was backed by Lomorukai.

Now, the rivalry has shifted to the county's top seat, with Protus Akujah seeking to unseat the incumbent Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai in the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Their political rivalry has also extended to the Loima parliamentary race. Akujah is backing Turkwel Ward MCA Hon. Stephen Edukon as his preferred successor, while Governor Lomorukai has thrown his support behind Dr. Michael Eregae, setting the stage for another closely contested battle.

Despite their growing political differences, Lomorukai and Akujah share a long-standing personal friendship that predates their electoral contests. Governor Lomorukai has even named one of his sons after Protus Akujah, highlighting the close relationship the two have maintained over the years despite being on opposing sides of the political divide.
