STATEMENT ON THE KILLING OF TWO NATIONAL POLICE RESERVISTS BY KDF PERSONNEL STATIONED AT LOYAPAT-KAINUK IN AROO-KAPTIR WARD
(This is what KDF based in Loyapat are capable of doing but recovering of Livestock driven or stolen by pokots has become a nightmare)
It is yet another dark and painful afternoon for the people of ArooβKaptir Ward.
Today, I condemn in the strongest terms possible the senseless killings perpetrated by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), which have claimed the lives of two brave National Police Reservists (NPR). These officers, who were on a motorbike returning from their duty of protecting the community of Logum along the River Turkwel irrigation bank, were gunned down in cold blood.
One was shot in the head, the other in the chest and legβboth fully dressed in official NPR uniforms and carrying government-issued fi****ms. Their only crime was fulfilling their sacred duty; to safeguard lives and livelihoods. Moments before their death, they had been manning the ongoing vent bridge construction at River Turkwel and providing much-needed security to farmers in the area.
It is deeply disheartening that KDF, whose constitutional mandate is to protect the nation and its people, has instead become a source of fear and insecurity for the Turkana community along the River Turkwel. The killing of these two NPRs stands as yet another painful reminder of the growing impunity and disregard for human life in Aroo Sub-County.
As the Member of Parliament for Turkana South, I speak with a heavy heart on behalf of a community that has endured too many losses, many of them caused or worsened by the very security forces meant to protect them.
I therefore appeal to the Ministry of Interior and National Administration National Government to immediately withdraw all security personnel and apparatus stationed in and around Aroo Sub-County, as they have completely failed in their duty to protect our people and their property.
Our hearts mourn tonight for the two gallant officers who paid the ultimate price while serving their country. Their deaths must not be in vain. JUSTICE must prevail.
May their souls rest in eternal peace.
