Good morning Makueni,

This is a defining moment for our county.

I bring to you Mr Fix It, Prof Philip Kaloki, also known as Kaloki wa Maendeeo, a leader on a clear mission to transform Makueni and restore pride in our systems.

Mr Fix It stands for a government that works. A government where services reach the people, where systems are efficient, and where public resources are protected from corruption. His leadership is about results, not rhetoric.

In healthcare, the situation demands urgent action. Mothers are losing their lives while giving life. This must come to an end. Mr Fix It will ensure that our hospitals have enough qualified personnel, proper equipment, and a consistent supply of essential medicines. Every life matters, and every facility must function.

In agriculture, our farmers have suffered heavy losses, especially in recent seasons. Prof Kaloki understands that agriculture is the backbone of Makueni. He will strengthen value chains, improve market access, and ensure that processing plants like the Kalamba fruit factory are expanded, professionally managed, and profitable for both farmers and the county.

Makueni has not lacked resources. What it has lacked is effective leadership.

Under Mutula Kilonzo Jr., several failures cannot be ignored:
1. The mangoes scandal that hurt our farmers
2. ⁠Lack of essential drugs in hospitals
3. ⁠Neglect of the Ndengu factory
4. ⁠Neglect of the Kalamba fruit factory
5. ⁠Neglect of the Kitise chicken abattoir
6. ⁠Neglect of the Kikima dairy
7. ⁠Neglect of Kibwezi cold storage
8. ⁠Misplaced priorities and questionable expenditures while hospitals lack drugs
9. ⁠Poor working environment for staff
10. ⁠Billions spent annually with little visible development or accountability
11. ⁠Continued neglect of the milk factory in Kitise

Makueni deserves accountability.

Makueni deserves delivery.

We must also remember the legacy of Kivutha Kibwana, under whose leadership Makueni became a benchmark county across Kenya. That standard can be achieved again.

Prof Kaloki, is ready to restore that glory, fix the systems, and deliver real change to the people.

The time for change is now.
The time to act is now.

Makueni will rise again under the leadership of Mr Fix It.

Makueni must end maternal deaths. This has been rampant under the leadership of Governor Mutula Jr. What is the problem?

A woman in labour together with her unborn baby dies inside sultan Hamud Subcounty Hospital in Makueni County. Reports indicate that she had other serious medical underlying conditions which needed over ksh. 200,000 to be admitted in a private hospital ICU which her family could not afford .

Stop the Waste: Time to Protect Public Resources in Makueni

The people of Makueni deserve leadership that treats public resources with the seriousness and responsibility they demand. Yet, growing concerns continue to emerge over how funds are being allocated under the leadership of Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr., especially in critical sectors like healthcare.

At a time when residents are struggling to access reliable and efficient medical services, it is deeply troubling to see millions of shillings directed toward programs that are not delivering results. The continued investment in the Social Health Authority, despite widespread complaints about inefficiency and limited impact, raises serious questions about priorities and accountability. Public funds are not an experiment; they are a trust given by the people.

Every shilling wasted is a missed opportunity to improve hospitals, equip facilities, and ensure that ordinary citizens receive the quality care they deserve. Makueni cannot afford to channel over 100 million shillings into a system that is failing to meet expectations while more pressing needs remain unmet.

It is time for a shift in approach. Leadership must listen to the people, reassess spending decisions, and redirect resources toward solutions that work. Accountability is not optional, and neither is transparency. The future of Makueni depends on prudent financial management and a commitment to putting the needs of its people first.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. has, in many ways, fallen short of the expectations of the Kamba community. It is deeply unfortunate to see a leader of his stature publicly belittle both Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka and the community by suggesting they lack the capacity to mobilize resources or produce a president. Such remarks are not only discouraging but also undermine the unity and confidence of the very people he is meant to lead.

At a time when the region should be consolidating support and projecting a strong national agenda, the Governor appears distracted by divisive and misplaced narratives. His recent remarks at a burial in Makindu, in the presence of Dr Kalonzo and other national leaders, where he chose to dwell on issues of “witches,” were both inappropriate and ironic—considering it is his own administration that previously issued title deeds to those same groups.

Leadership demands focus, responsibility, and strategic alignment. Instead of engaging in ridicule or side shows, Governor Mutula should be at the forefront of championing the presidential ambitions of Dr Kalonzo Musyoka and positioning the Kamba community as a serious political force in Kenya.

His current posture raises legitimate concerns. Is he firmly committed to the ideals of the Wiper Patriotic Front, or is he advancing interests that align elsewhere, perhaps even acting as a mole within the ranks? The people of Ukambani deserve clarity, consistency, and leadership that uplifts rather than diminishes their collective aspirations.

When Kivutha Kibwana brought the initiative NHIF was still working. When Gov Mutula Jr discarded the same initiative SHA's idea had not even been conceived nor actualized. Therefore using SHA as an excuse for his actions or inactions is neither here nor there.

As he endeavours to bring Kivutha Card back, he should be advised to stock the pharmacies too. Universal Health Care without medicine and equipment is nothing. People are still being sent out for X-rays and MRIs.

Kibwanas initiate of Kivutha card was tried and tested, actually before rolling out the program he started with a public declaration that those patients above 65yrs and those below 5yrs should automatically receive free treatment with or without the card. Can't Mutula (as he prepares to 'being back' Kivutha Card) make a public declaration that the old and the young will start receiving free treatment with immediate effect?

We have a huge shortage of fools in Makueni County. And we shall speak from the rooftop to educate the few of us who are still fools.
