The Department of Environment and Climate Change has officially handed over a rehabilitated irrigation project to the BP1 community, funded under the FLLoCA Program.
The project restored a 1.5 km canal, installed a solar-powered draw-off system and upgraded the pump house to prevent flood damage. These improvements have reduced water loss, cut fuel costs, prevented equipment damage and revived abandoned farms.
The project was prioritized by residents through a participatory climate risk assessment and implemented jointly with the Department of Irrigation. Farmers were also trained on climate-smart agriculture to boost resilience and productivity.
During the handover, the CCO for Environment and Climate Change urged the community to safeguard the infrastructure for sustainability. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, noting the project has restored hope, improved efficiency and encouraged a return to farming, advancing local food security and climate resilience.
