An Urgent Plea for Justice: The Unpaid Guardian of Nariokotome
To the esteemed Minister of Tourism, our dedicated Member of County Assembly (MCA), our respected Member of Parliament (MP), and His Excellency, the Governor of [TURKANA],
I am writing to you today with a profound sense of urgency and a heavy heart to bring to your immediate attention a deeply distressing situation that demands your intervention. This concerns a remarkable woman, a mother, who has for five long years faithfully served as the guardian of a site of immense historical and cultural significance in our county – the discovery site of the Nariokotome Boy.
This mother, *Asekon Loowa Ngitit*, has not only been the unofficial security for this invaluable location but also the tireless individual who ensures tourists gain access, diligently opening and closing doors, and, most importantly, protecting it from the harsh elements and potential human interference. Her dedication to preserving this critical part of our heritage is unwavering, yet for four years, she has not received a single shilling for her tireless efforts.
Think of the injustice of this. While we, as a county, celebrate the allure of our tourist attractions and the economic benefits they bring, a dedicated individual who underpins the very access and preservation of one such site is left in financial limbo. This isn't just a matter of unpaid wages; it's a profound betrayal of trust and a blatant disregard for human dignity.
We speak of promoting tourism, of showcasing our rich history, but what message does it send when those who literally safeguard our treasures are left uncompensated? This mother has exhausted every avenue available to her. She has knocked on countless doors, visited numerous offices, and pleaded for help, only to be met with empty promises and endless procrastination. Each day, she continues her crucial work, driven by a sense of duty, while the very people who benefit from her efforts turn a blind eye to her plight.
This situation is not just an administrative oversight; it is a moral failing that casts a shadow on our commitment to our citizens. It is a testament to how easily the most vulnerable can be overlooked, even when their contributions are undeniable.
Therefore, I implore each of you, in your respective capacities, to act decisively.
To the Minister of Tourism:This woman’s dedication directly impacts the tourist experience and the integrity of our cultural sites. Her unpaid labour undermines the very principles of responsible tourism. Please initiate an immediate investigation and ensure she receives all outstanding payments with appropriate compensation for the delay.
To our MCA and MP: You are the voices of the people. This mother is a constituent who has been failed by the system. It is your duty to champion her cause, to hold those accountable, and to ensure that justice is served.
To His Excellency, the Governor: As the leader of our county, you have the power to cut through bureaucratic red tape and ensure that such blatant injustices do not persist under your watch This is an opportunity to demonstrate true leadership and compassion.
Let us not allow this stain on our county's reputation to endure. Let us show this mother, and indeed all our citizens, that their efforts are valued, their contributions are recognized, and their pleas for justice will not fall on deaf ears.
This is a cry for justice that should resonate with anyone who values fairness, dignity, and the preservation of our shared heritage. If you are moved by Asekon Loowa Ngitit's plight, we urge you to lend your voice and support. Every effort to ease her burden and fight for her rightful compensation matters. Please convey your feedback and support through +254745132168. Your action can make a profound difference.
I await your swift and decisive action in this matter.
Sincerely,
A Concerned Citizen
