On the morning of August 17, 2026, Governor H.E. Lati Lelelit presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the establishment of Samburu University. The new institution will serve as a satellite campus of Laikipia University. Present at the ceremony were the Vice Chancellor of Laikipia University, along with numerous county leaders and stakeholders from across the county.

The Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Prof. Kindiki, together with H.E. Lati Lelelit, welcomed several leaders and aspirants who today, joined UDA from Jubilee, citing the importance of ongoing development in the county. United in purpose, they declared that TUTAM and UDA are the party of choice. They emphasized that the current government is deeply considerate of ordinary citizens, expressing their trust in Deputy President Kindiki and President William Ruto.
