After spending nearly 39 years in prison for a crime he did not commit, Ricky Jackson was finally freed.

Jackson was convicted in Ohio in 1975 and sent to prison for taking a life in Cleveland.

The case against him relied heavily on the testimony of a 12-year-old boy named Eddie Vernon.

Decades later, Vernon admitted he had lied and said police had pressured him into identifying Jackson and two other men.

In 2014, Ricky Jackson walked out of prison a free man after spending almost four decades behind bars.

At the time, he was believed to be one of the longest-serving wrongfully convicted people in US history.

Ohio later awarded him just over $1 million in compensation, and he eventually received millions more through additional settlements.

But no amount of money could give him back the 39 years he lost.

He went into prison as a young man.

He came out in his late 50s.

All because of a crime he did not commit.
