HE SURVIVED HAITI, BUT LOST HIS LIFE AT HOME πŸ’”πŸ•ŠοΈ

Afande Somo had already walked through one of the most dangerous assignments of his policing career.

He was among the Kenyan officers deployed thousands of kilometres away to Haiti, leaving behind his family, friends and the familiarity of home to serve in a country facing serious insecurity and violent armed gangs.

In Haiti, danger was never far away.

The officers operated in an unfamiliar environment where heavily armed gangs controlled parts of the country, gunfire and violent confrontations were an ever-present risk, and every deployment demanded courage, discipline and alertness.

For Afande Somo, it meant waking up each day far from Kenya knowing that the uniform he wore could place him directly in harm’s way.

It meant serving in a foreign land, navigating uncertainty and carrying out his duty while those who loved him back home could only pray for his safe return.

And he survived.

After facing the dangers of Haiti, Afande Somo eventually returned to Kenya, back to his own country, his own people and the place that should have felt safest.

One would imagine that after surviving such a difficult mission abroad, returning home would mark the beginning of calmer days.

But his story took a heartbreaking turn.

In Isiolo County, on the very soil he had spent his life serving and protecting, Afande Somo tragically lost his life in an attack by bandits.

The contrast is difficult to comprehend.

He travelled across the world to one of the most dangerous security assignments of his career and came back alive, only for his life to be taken by insecurity here at home.

Behind the uniform was a Kenyan son, a brother, a colleague and an officer who had chosen a life of service.

From Kenya to Haiti and back again, his journey was one of courage, sacrifice and duty.

He survived Haiti.

He came home.

And tragically, home became his final battlefield. πŸ’”πŸ•ŠοΈ
