The bridesmaid dresses from Friends became one of the show’s most unexpected cultural phenomena — sparking more audience interest than almost anything else that ever appeared on screen. Costume designer Debra McGuire later revealed that those dresses generated an overwhelming response, saying, “Those bridesmaid dresses got the most calls and inquiries of anything on the whole show.” Even the production team was caught off guard by the reaction.

What makes the story even more surprising is that the dresses weren’t intended to be fashion statements or designer showcases. “We bought them at Neiman Marcus, and they were so beautiful,” McGuire explained, emphasizing that they weren’t from a famous label at all — “just some random formalwear brand.”
