At just 16, Cynthia Kerubo Onchiri, a Form Two student at Bong'onta Secondary School, has published her first book, Nyasaina's Sad Moments. The novel tells the moving story of a young girl's struggle to stay in school despite challenges at home.

On March 28, 2025, Cynthia’s dream came true when her manuscript was published. “I couldn’t believe it was finally in print,” she said, full of emotion.

At the Kisii Regional Book Fair, she met her literary role model, poet Scholastica Moraa, who encouraged her to keep writing an opportunity made possible by her English teacher, Dorothy Bwari.

Cynthia hopes to become a lecturer one day, and with support from mentors like Deputy Head Dr. Alfred Nyamwange, her journey is just getting started.

Let’s celebrate this rising young author and her inspiring start!
