On September 4, 2024 – Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku led a heartfelt fundraising drive to support the families of 12 individuals who tragically lost their lives in a road accident on the Meru highway. The accident occurred four days ago near the Nithi bridge, leaving behind a community in mourning.

The victims, primarily single mothers from Meru County, were traveling back from a visit to a fellow chama member's parents when their matatu collided head-on with a pickup truck, leading to the tragic loss of life.

A witness, Penina (Mama Victor), who narrowly escaped the accident by being in a different matatu, shared her harrowing experience and called for government assistance for the orphaned children and funeral expenses.

The community Reverend, Mr. Mutuma, offered condolences and announced a memorial service on September 5th. The Kajiado County Women's Representative pledged to provide caskets for all the deceased.

Area Member of Parliament, Onesmus Ngogoyo vowed to channel funds to the affected families for burial costs and conveyed condolences from the Deputy President, who contributed KSh 500,000.

On his Governor Lenku emphasized the county's commitment to supporting the education of the orphaned children. He also praised MP Ngogoyo for his leadership and promised to improve the market place in Ongata Rongai to enhance the community's livelihood.

The fundraising event was a resounding success, raising over KSh 800,000 for the families of the victims. The community and dignitaries came together in solidarity to offer much-needed support during this difficult time.

THE NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL UNVEILS 2023/2024-2027/2028 STRATEGIC PLAN.

The National Youth Council (NYC) has unveiled it's second Strategic plan 2023/2024-2027/2028, marking a significant milestone in Kenya's dedication to youth empowerment and development.

The launch was presided over by the Principal Secretary state department for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Mr. Ismail Maalim Madey who represented the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Hon. Ababu Namwamba alongside Margaret Kiogora, Ag Chief Executive Officer NYC at the launch

Speaking the at the launch on Wednesday, 24 2024 at Utalii Hotel, Nairobi, Mr. Ismail Madey said that the five-year strategic plan entails a roadmap that will engage the youths in the ecosystem of life.

“The five-year strategic plan entails a roadmap on how to engage the young people into the spaces and ecosystems where they work. It's a very promising plan if we all put our efforts together we're going to achieve alot for he young people.” Said Mr. Madey

In regards to it's slogan—amplifying the youth voice, the National Youth Council is mandated to amplify the Youth voice and to advocate for Youth opportunities to associate, be represented and participate in the political, social, economic and other spheres of life.

Margaret Kiogora, Ag Chief Executive Officer NYC also expressed her remarks on the launch of the strategic plan, she said, “with this strategic plan we hope to have programs and initiatives that can be able to showcase what young people are doing in this country.”

The National Youth Council Strategic Plan is aimed at equipping young Kenyans with the necessary tools, resources, and opportunities to thrive in today's dynamic world and to create an enabling environment where every youth can realize their full potential.

The plan also emphasizes inclusivity, particularly for marginalized groups and persons with disabilities.
