Rising Typhoid Cases in Nairobi: What You Need to Know
Health officials in Nairobi have raised an alert after an increase in typhoid fever cases in some estates. Contaminated water and poor sanitation have been linked to the outbreak.
What is Typhoid?
Typhoid is a serious bacterial infection caused by Salmonella typhi. It spreads through food or water contaminated by human waste.
Common Symptoms:
~Prolonged fever
~Weakness
~Stomach pain
~Headache
~Loss of appetite
What You Can Do to Stay Safe:
✅ Drink boiled or treated water
✅ Wash hands with soap and clean water, especially before eating
✅ Eat food that is properly cooked
✅ Avoid roadside food, e.g mtura if hygiene is questionable
✅ Seek medical help immediately if you experience symptoms
