Four Law Enforcement Officers Arrested Over Illegal Arms Trade
Detectives from the Operations Support Unit (OSU) have arrested four law enforcement officers suspected of involvement in an illegal arms and ammunition trafficking ring linked to rising insecurity and violence across the country.
The suspects include:
Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Ekidor Lotira Charles, based in Turkana
Corporal Isaac Kipngetich, attached to the Turkana County Police Headquarters
Police Constable Ileli Cyrus Kisamwa, an armorer at the Central Fi****ms Stores in the Industrial Area
Constable Samson Muriithi Mutongu, a storeman also based in the Industrial Area
The four had been under investigation for some time due to their suspected role in the illicit trade. Their arrest follows days of intensive profiling, surveillance, and forensic investigation by OSU officers.
The breakthrough came when Cpl. Kipngetich was caught red-handed receiving a shipment of 1,000 rounds of ammunition from Constables Ileli and Mutongu. The consignment was reportedly destined for ASP Ekidor Lotira.
Further operations led to the arrest of Constable Mutongu, who was found with 19 assorted firearm magazines, firing pins, cleaning kits, and three spent 9mm cartridges. Constable Ileli was also detained while in possession of a Re*****on Rand Model 1911 pistol and two Ceska pistol firing pins.
All four suspects are scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, 29th September 2025.
The National Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to holding accountable any individuals who breach public trust by fueling violence through illegal arms dealings.
