🌍 THE AFRICAN CONNECTION: DINKA OF SOUTH SUDAN & SENEGALESE SISTERS ON THE COURT 🏀✨

📸 Image Credit: African Queens of the Court – South Sudan & Senegal National Basketball Teams

When culture, beauty, and athleticism collide on one court — something truly magical happens. A recent photo collage showcasing the striking resemblance between the Dinka women of South Sudan and their Senegalese sisters has sparked curiosity, admiration, and a profound sense of African unity.

At first glance, it’s hard to tell who plays for which team — the tall, graceful builds, radiant skin tones, and commanding presence are nearly identical. From their strong cheekbones to their statuesque height and proud expressions, these women could be from the same village — yet they hail from opposite ends of the continent.

Shared Nilotic and Sahelian Roots?
Many believe that the Dinka of South Sudan and the Senegalese (especially from Wolof and Serer backgrounds) may share ancient ancestral links through migration patterns that go back thousands of years. This image is a living testimony of those deep African connections that transcend colonial borders.

🏀 United by Basketball, Bound by Heritage
In international basketball competitions, South Sudan and Senegal often shine. Their national women’s teams are not just dominating the court, but also challenging global beauty standards and reshaping the narrative of African excellence. And now, the internet can’t stop talking about how alike these queens look — as if they're cousins separated by distance, but united in spirit.

VOICES FROM THE CONTINENT
“Are we not one people scattered by artificial borders?”
“This is what pan-Africanism looks like — on and off the court.”
“Our queens mirror each other — tall, proud, fearless.”

From Rumbek to Dakar, One Africa, One People!
This photo reminds us that whether you’re from the Nile or the Atlantic, Africa’s heartbeat is one. Let this serve as a reminder of our unity, beauty, and unstoppable potential.

BREAKING: A New Era Begins in South Sudan Wrestling!
Lakes Times | Rumbek, South Sudan |
02 August 2025

History was made as rising star Teng Dok from the Alian Section of Jale Payam stunned the wrestling world by toppling the undefeated champion Akol Agok—also known as Lonhnyor—in a jaw-dropping showdown!

For years, Akol reigned supreme, fearlessly flooring champions like Majok Siko and earning legendary status in the wrestling circles of Bor. But tonight, his dominance was finally broken in a clash of titans between the Deer Clan of Makuach Payam and Jale’s finest warrior.

Fans were left in disbelief as Teng Dok pulled off the unthinkable, but controversy brewed online with many criticizing media outlets for missing key moments of the epic match.

Is this the rise of a new king? Or just a stumble in Akol's storied career?

🇸🇸 OFFICIAL RESPONSE TO GEN. MUHOOZI’S RECKLESS TWEET
📍 Lakes Times | Rumbek, South Sudan | 30 July 2025

Today, we express deep concern and patriotic anger over the inflammatory social media statement issued by Uganda’s CDF, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, in which he irresponsibly claimed that "Trying to fight UPDF is the quickest path to hell!"—a veiled threat directed at the Republic of South Sudan following the Kajo-Keji border confrontation.

Let it be known: South Sudan is a sovereign nation, not a satellite state of Uganda. Our national army—the SSPDF—is a professional force that has always exercised restraint, even in the face of provocation. Any cross-border misunderstanding should be handled through diplomatic and military-to-military channels, not through arrogant tweets meant to intimidate and escalate.

🔺 We respect our Ugandan brothers and the role their leadership played during our liberation. But no army, no matter how powerful, has the right to threaten the territorial dignity of South Sudan or to belittle our forces.

We particularly urge Gen. Muhoozi to respect the weight of his office and the sensitivities between two nations that share history, blood, and borders. Such reckless statements undermine regional peace.

We also call on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the SPLM-led government in Juba to demand an official apology from the Ugandan government—and to ensure that future provocations are met with firm and strategic clarity.

✊🏿 South Sudan will never bow to threats.
✊🏿 We are ready for peace—but never afraid to defend our sovereignty.
✊🏿 Our martyrs did not die for us to be intimidated in our own land.

📰 GOVERNOR BOL WEK AGOTH VISITS TONJ EAST COUNTY AMIDST COMMUNAL CLASHES
July 30, 2025 | JUBA, SOUTH SUDAN

Tonj East County, Warrap State — In a bold and timely move, Governor Bol Wek Agoth of Warrap State today, July 30, 2025, paid a critical visit to Tonj East County, a region that has recently been plagued by a wave of deadly communal clashes.

The governor's visit comes on the same day South Sudan observes Martyrs’ Day, a national holiday honoring the sacrifices of those who gave their lives for peace and independence. His presence in the heart of a conflict zone sends a strong message: "We must honor our martyrs by choosing peace over bloodshed."

🔍 The Situation on the Ground

Tonj East has been one of the flashpoints of intercommunal violence, with tensions escalating in recent weeks due to disputes over cattle, land, and revenge killings. The clashes have claimed several lives and displaced hundreds of families, sparking calls for urgent action from both citizens and traditional authorities.

🤝 Governor’s Call for Peace and Accountability

Addressing a large gathering of local chiefs, youth leaders, women’s groups, and military commanders, Governor Bol Wek Agoth expressed deep concern over the recurring violence and pledged swift government intervention to restore law and order.

"This violence is not who we are as South Sudanese. It dishonors the blood of our martyrs. We must end the killings, embrace reconciliation, and rebuild trust among our communities," the governor declared.

He urged the youth to lay down their arms, resolve grievances through dialogue, and focus on development and education. He also announced that a joint security task force will be deployed to prevent further escalation and hold perpetrators accountable.

📢 Local Leaders Respond

Community elders and chiefs welcomed the governor’s visit and called for long-term solutions, including disarmament, access to justice, and livelihood support for returnees.

A youth representative from the area said, "We thank the governor for coming in person. We want peace, but we also need jobs, education, and fairness. Without that, violence will continue."

🔧 Path Forward

The governor concluded his visit by holding closed-door meetings with security officials and humanitarian partners to coordinate relief support for affected families and discuss a county-wide peace initiative that includes trauma healing, cattle management reforms, and inter-clan dialogue forums.

✊🏾 Conclusion

Governor Bol Wek Agoth’s visit to Tonj East on Martyrs’ Day was more than symbolic—it was a bold step toward healing the wounds of conflict and setting a tone of governance that walks with the people.

As South Sudan continues to face challenges, today was a reminder that true leadership does not hide from conflict—it confronts it with compassion, courage, and commitment.

🕊️ Let peace begin in Tonj East, and may it spread across every corner of South Sudan.

🧬🔥 Dinka or Nuer? Emmanuel Jal’s Identity Sparks National Debate 🇸🇸

JUBA | LAKES TIME – The internet is buzzing over the contested ethnic identity of internationally acclaimed South Sudanese artist Emmanuel Jal.

In recent days, heated discussions have erupted online with some claiming Jal is Nuer from Bentiu, while others firmly insist he is Dinka from Tonj.

🎙️ With his global influence as a former child soldier turned peace advocate, many are now asking:
“Does Jal’s ethnicity really matter—or are we missing the bigger picture?”

Across TikTok, Facebook, and WhatsApp groups, South Sudanese youth are divided:
🔹 Some argue identity matters for history, pride, and representation.
🔹 Others say focusing on tribe only distracts from Jal’s bigger message of unity and mental freedom.

📣 One viral comment reads:

“Jal speaks for all of us. Whether he’s Nuer or Dinka, he is South Sudanese first.”

But critics argue that transparency in identity is essential, especially for someone who represents the nation on the world stage.

🗣️ Lakes Time wants to hear from YOU:
🔥 Is it important to know Emmanuel Jal’s real ethnic roots?
🔥 Are we still too obsessed with tribe in South Sudan?
🔥 What does this say about our national identity in 2025?

👇🏽 Drop your thoughts in the comments. Let’s talk openly, not tribally.

🇸🇸 Is This South Sudan’s Next President… or Just His Long-Lost Twin?
📍 Rumbek, South Sudan

In a crowd of hopeful smiles, one man stands out — and not just because of his wide-brimmed cowboy hat, stately suit, and "I'm-here-to-lead" posture. No, what caught the attention of hundreds online is his uncanny resemblance to President Salva Kiir Mayardit himself.

Locals in Rumbek have already crowned him with an unofficial title: "Kiir 2.0" or as some jokingly call him, "Comrade Copy-Paste".

Wearing a sharp yellow shirt, bold patterned tie, presidential beard, and dark glasses that whisper, “I make executive decisions before breakfast,” this gentleman effortlessly channels that South Sudanese head-of-state energy. Surrounded by kids, youth, and curious bystanders, he doesn’t just look the part — he lives it. He’s the kind of guy who makes you want to stand for the national anthem even when there's no speaker.

But who is he?

Locals say he's a humble, down-to-earth man who didn’t expect to break the internet. Yet here he is — trending faster than a boda-boda at rush hour. Some even say he gave out presidential handshakes and blessings that day, sparking rumors that he's preparing to launch his own movement: “Cowboy Hat for the People”.

🗣️ “I thought I saw Kiir in the Freedom Square!” one boda-boda guy laughed. “Then I realized he was smiling... and Kiir never smiles that big!”

Whether he's a political doppelgänger or just the coolest uncle in town, one thing is certain: South Sudanese people are loving the resemblance and the positivity it brings.

What Can We Learn?
In a country hungry for leadership, stability, and unity, sometimes it only takes a familiar hat, a warm smile, and a humble heart to inspire a crowd. Maybe he’s not running for president — yet — but he’s certainly won the people's hearts for the day.

And honestly, if this man ever runs for office, he already has the most powerful campaign slogan:

“Why change the face of leadership when it already looks this good?”
