Young Kenyan MPs are making a powerful impression at the ongoing EALA Games in Kampala, Uganda, where they have emerged as standout performers on the track and field. Led by the Associations' Chairman Hon. John Gitonga Mukunji, the energetic Kenyan contingent has already collected an impressive haul of medals among them a spirited tug-of-war victory over hosts Uganda.
Kenya’s speedsters have shone particularly bright. Mwala MP Hon. Eng. Vincent Musyoka Musau Kawaya stormed to victory in both the 100m and the 4×100m relay, further cementing his status as one of the delegation’s top athletes. Gold in the race went to the exceptional Hon. Kitur, who clocked an impressive 11.8 seconds at the iconic Nelson Mandela Stadium in Namboole.
In the men’s 400m, Chairman Hon. Mukunji Gitonga displayed grit and endurance, powering his way to a bronze medal with a time of 1:03.9. The long-distance events also carried Kenyan success: in the 1500m, Hon. John Kagucha secured a bronze medal in 5:54.1, followed by Hon. Joshua Kimilu (6:22.7), Hon. John Paul Mwirigi (7:35.0), and newly elected Baringo Senator Kiprono Chemitei (7:49.7), who all finished in impressive fashion.
Kenya’s relay squad featuring Hon. Betty Maina, Hon. Esther Okenyuri, Hon. Florence Jematiah and others added to the team’s depth and showcased the collective strength of the delegation.
The Kenyan MPs are competing alongside representatives from across East Africa in this annual regional event, which continues to promote unity, camaraderie, and cooperation among member states.
With their strong performances and spirited teamwork, the young Kenyan leaders are not only earning medals but also championing the ideals of regional solidarity.
