The African Union (AU) Election Observer Mission in Tanzania has raised serious concerns over the credibility of the country’s recent elections, reporting that some voters were allowed to cast their ballots without any identity verification, while others were issued multiple ballot papers.

The mission further noted that vote tallies did not match at several polling stations, suggesting irregularities in the counting process.

SADC election observers declared the polls a sham, citing widespread irregularities, voter manipulation and intimidation.

Members of the SADC observer team reported that their official documents were confiscated by security officers, and they were forced to delete photographs related to their monitoring activities.

In contrast, the East African Community (EAC) Mission observers offered a more positive assessment, commending the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting what they described as a transparent, peaceful and well-organised election that aligned with international standards and democratic principles.👀
