President William Ruto today joined African leaders leaders at the inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in Benishangul-Gumuz, Ethiopia.
Funded entirely by Ethiopians, the dam is Africa’s largest hydropower project, with a capacity of 6,450 MW a landmark of self-reliance and regional progress.
President Ruto affirmed Kenya’s readiness to sign a power purchase agreement with Ethiopia to import surplus electricity for industry, ICT, manufacturing, and agro-processing, boosting jobs and competitiveness.
He also urged Ethiopia, Egypt, and Sudan to advance trilateral talks in good faith, stressing that dialogue is key to equitable use of Nile waters and regional stability.
Also present were Presidents Ismaïl Omar Guelleh (Djibouti), Hassan Sheikh Mohamud (Somalia), Salva Kiir Mayardit (South Sudan), Prime Minister Mia Mottley (Barbados), Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini (Eswatini), and AU Commission Chair Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
