After Jumuia, I walked alone.

My voice was still warm
From the sound of the last prayer
The sun had set on a sacred ground
And after breaking the bread
Darkness fell and no one else heard.

I didn't know I was a threat
Yet all I carried was my empty hands
With worn out shoes and quiet plans
And my life that I poured to the village
In whispered prayers and baby calls.

I felt fire rip through my chest
A burning hymn that stole my breath
I stumbled once where lilies bloom
Making my question
Do bullets silence sacred light?

They did not care for the cloth or creed
In my robe, the thread of peace
Did they not see the cross i bore?
The scent of incense on my form
Yet they stained my bible and tore my collar
And now I lie cold and dead.

Tell people that I loved them
Till the end.
Each stranger, even a sinner, a foe
Tell them my blood is not in vain
It waters. It heals the pain
For the gift of a priest is worth it.

Tell them
I'm not the blood they spilled
I'm the prayers their silence filled
I'm not cursing anyone
"Forgive them, lord", Is all I say
For now, the sky is my bed.

Tell the church not to mourn me in despair
Or wear a grief like heavy air
I walked with truth till the end
And died a priest, a man and a friend.

Now, burry me where people pray
Where Jumuia meets by day
I'm not gone, I've just gone home
Through the martyr's gate
Through the sacred dome
And when You lift your eyes above
Know that I'm still serving. In love.
