The death of Kenyaโ€™s former Prime Minister and prodemocracy leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday, October 15, has prompted mourning across the Kenyan diaspora in the US โ€“ including Minnesota where he had strong ties. He died in Kerala, India where he was undergoing treatment.

A statement from the hospital said he collapsed and died as he went for his morning walk, and gave the cause of death as cardiac arrest. He was 80.

In Kenya, he is referred to as โ€œBaba,โ€ which means father in Kiswahili, the countryโ€™s lingua franca. He will be best remembered for leading the protests that ended one-party rule in Kenya, culminating in the first multiparty election being held in 1992. The protests he led came after spending six years in detention without a trial under the draconian regime of President Daniel Arap Moi.

The late Odinga made numerous visits to Minnesota โ€“ both as a leader of the opposition leader and after he became prime minister. He was prime minister from 2008 to 2013. His last visit to Minnesota was on October 2013.

Ms. Roselidah Nyaberi, who is president of Mwanyagetinge Association of Kenyans in Minnesota โ€“ the largest organized group of Kenyans in the state, had just migrated to the United States the last time Mr. Odinga visited Minnesota. However, she is aware of the love many Minnesota Kenyans have Baba and it was upon her to express the collective grief the community felt. In a written statement to Mshale, Nyaberi sent condolences to the Odinga family, praising his commitment to peace and national unity, adding that โ€œas a community we are standing with you during this sorrowful moment.โ€

โ€œAs Kenyans in the diaspora, we will miss him for his visionary leadership, courage and resilience in the face of adversity and unwavering dedication to human rights,โ€ Nyaberi said in her statement. โ€œLet us honor his legacy by following his example and respect others regardless of their opinion.โ€

Dr. John Makori who chaired the Minnesota chapter of Azimio la Umoja, the coalition that Mr. Odinga ran for the presidency under in the 2022 presidential election, told Mshale the late prime minister emphasized integrity in the few encounters he had with him, always insisting that one should โ€œbe satisfied with the little that God has bestowed upon you, so as not to compromise your integrity.โ€

Minneapolis-based Kenyan American entrepreneur Dr. Siyad Abdullahi praised Odinga as a โ€œstatesman and fighter that gave it his all.โ€

โ€œI first met Raila through a mutual friend in 2006 when he was campaigning for President and I readily agreed to be his main organizer in the US,โ€ Abdullahi said. โ€œAfter that he became a friend beyond politics, and even after campaigns were over would take time to personally respond to my messages. He really cared about the marginalized communities, women, minorities and people with disabilities and those living in poverty.โ€

Abdullahi described him as a man that cared deeply about personal relationships that went beyond politics, recalling a surprise call he received from Mr. Odinga in 2024.

โ€œLast year, Raila was giving a talk at Oxford University (London) and found out my daughter Yasmin is doing her masters there. He made time to meet with her and called me right after with very gracious words about how smart and well prepared she was,โ€ Abdullahi said.

In his many visits to the United States, the person responsible for coordinating them was Mr. Robert Nyagudi โ€“ before his move to Canada. Nyagudi, who is the director in charge of supply chain for a Canadian firm, was still in shock and unable to express his feelings when Mshale reached him via WhatsApp Thursday morning at his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Mr. Nyagudi said when he first heard reports early Wednesday morning about Babaโ€™s death, he searched frantically on the internet for confirmation but was unsuccessful, and recalls feeling suddenly afraid to hear the truth. He made frantic phone calls to Babaโ€™s family including wife Ida but to no avail. Finally, after 25 minutes of what felt like a day, he was able to get through to Babaโ€™s sister Ruth Odinga who told him, โ€œYes your friend has left usโ€

โ€œThe passing of Jakom is painful and a really dark cloud hangs over my heart and although he was old enough to be my father, he was simply a friend,โ€ Nyagudi said. โ€œIn my many interactions with him we talked about personal, family and business matters and conversations about politics were almost secondary and this humanized him for me.โ€

โ€œI will deeply miss his wisdom, humility, and compassion,โ€ he continued. Nyagudi said one legendary attribute of the late Odinga was his ability to connect with people from all walks of life, which he called a โ€œrare gift.โ€ Adding that even though Odinga had a good sense of humor, he eschewed laziness but had a forgiving spirit.

A state funeral for Mr. Odinga is scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, October 17 in Nairobi and he will be buried on Sunday, October 19. His wish was to be buried within 72 hours of his death.

Celebration of Life in Minnesota on Oct. 18
A prior scheduled political event that was to feature Kenyan politician and former presidential aspirant and Roots Party leader, George Wajackoyah, in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota on Oct.18, 2025 will instead be a celebration of the life of Raila Odinga. Mr. Wajackoyah, a political ally of Odinga, was already in the U.S. for the event but is in the process of flying back to Kenya for the funeral.

Aden Duale , once a humble classroom teacher living off a modest Government salary, has reinvented himself into a Monarch, at least in his own imagination. Today, he speaks with the swagger of a man who thinks he invented Garissa, and the whole County, its people, and its politics are merely stage properties in the theatre of his greatness.

The irony, of course, is sharp. The same community that lifted him from obscurity, polished his image, and entrusted him with a seat is now the object of his insults and ridicule. He now looks down on the Garissa people with open contempt, mocking leaders and belittling citizens, convinced that his helicopters and fattened portfolio of assets have entitled him to command unquestioning obedience.

But the question that hangs in the air is where exactly did this sudden flood of wealth originate? He was never a tech innovator, never an industrial tycoon, never the architect of a billion-shilling company. He struck no oil wells, launched no global software, and built no industry that could bankroll such extravagance. A modest teacherโ€™s salary could never stretch far enough to purchase aircrafts or accumulate sprawling ranches of livestock.

The uncomfortable truth is that Dualeโ€™s riches are not the result of brilliance or sweat. Like many in Kenyaโ€™s ruling class, he has fattened his fortunes through murky tenders, backroom wheeling and dealing, and the quiet plunder that drains citizens. Each helicopter he flaunts is really a monument to stolen public resources. Each camel he counts is a reminder of funds that never built a hospital, never reached a school, and never repaired a road in Garissa.

History, especially in Africa, has a wicked sense of humour. It has seen these characters before. The mighty men who mistake arrogance for leadership, wealth for wisdom, and insults for influence always end up in the same ditch. From CS who paraded their riches as political insurance, to MPs who spat on their own voters, the story rarely changes, the higher they rise, the harder and lonelier they fall.

Take a glance at Kenyaโ€™s recent past. In 2022, Pre. Uhuru, armed with the full arsenal of state machinery, believed he could bend the nationโ€™s will against Ruto. With the police, bureaucracy, and resources of the state at his disposal, Uhuru appeared unshakable....

When victory landed on Rutoโ€™s side, Duale himself was among the loudest voices reminding Kenyans of a truth older than his ancestors, that power is fleeting, that arrogance is dangerous, and that leaders who forget the source of their mandate are always taught brutal lessons. Today, those same words hang over him like a political prophecy.

It is a remarkable contradiction that just two years later, Duale now embraces the very song he once denounced. His flashy talk of helicopters might dazzle a handful of villagers and massage his pride, but it cannot shield him from the unforgiving arithmetic of politics. Helicopters may glide over Garissaโ€™s barren fields, but they'll never rise above the truth that respect is not purchased.

Across the continent, history is filled with grim reminders. Leaders who once treated their people with contempt eventually became mere shadows of themselves, unwanted at the very table of relevance. Powerful men who could only visit their villages under the cover of sirens and heavy security ended up pleading for the same handshakes they once withheld. Others have been reduced to cheerleaders for politicians they once dismissed. Their arrogance paved the road to their downfall and Duale is already lining up for his share of that fate.

For the people of Garissa, the betrayal cuts deep. This was a man they lifted from the chalkboard to the corridors of power, carried forward solely by their faith in him, but instead of appreciation, he rewards them with mockery. Instead of offering direction, he parades his ego and instead of genuine leadership, he delivers pompous sermons about riches and helicopters.

What Duale seems to forget is that power is not about the height of your wallet but the depth of your connection to the people. Leaders who ridicule their own communities are not feared, they are tolerated until the people decide they are no longer useful. Then comes the shrug, the cold silence, and finally the devastating realization that the same crowds who once cheered will not even bother to jeer.

And that is where Dualeโ€™s trajectory points. His downfall is not a speculative โ€œmaybe.โ€ It is a certainty waiting for its season. It will not be triggered by his rivals, nor by his enemies, but by the unbearable weight of his own arrogance. His wealth will not save him, his helicopters will not lift him, and his insults will not intimidate.

When the nosedive begins, it will be his own tongue that accelerates the plunge. His shameless bravado will serve as the fuel, and his disdain for Garissa will be the wind tearing his wings.

The same people of Garissa who once lifted him will be the same ones who will quietly let him crash and they'll not even bother to watch the wreckage.

Jomo Kenyatta never slept at State House, Nairobi. He believed the foundation of the building had been solemnised with human blood and that colonialists had liberally offered human sacrifices there when it was still the colonial Governor's mansion, and evil spirits apparently roamed there by night. He commuted to his Gatundu home or preferred the more "local" Nakuru State House.

Mrs Mumbi Madoka, Kenyatta's Social Secretary, says in her book that one night, Kenyatta was working late and decided to just brave the spirits and sleep there. Then in the dead of night, frogs in the pool started croaking loudly. Dawn was nearing, but old Jomo demanded to be driven to Gatundu because he didn't think those were just frogs!

When Moi took power, he preferred State House Nakuru too, but mostly his homes in Kabarak Nakuru and Kabarnet Gardens in Kibera. He undertook only state business at State House, Nairobi, then headed home. Kibaki stayed in the house on the hill in his early wheelchair days, but drifted to his Muthaiga home more. Uhuru's home was right next to State House, so he didn't need to move there at all.

Then Ruto arrived with this messianic complex, believing that he was the most religious President of all, and the house was reeking of evil from the four before him. Everything he saw there needed to be changed. They even dug up the grounds (someone cheekily commented that his Nigerian in laws had alluded to lots of witchcraft buried in the ground) and commissioned fresh cabro works. He trashed the roof, probably thinking that it was where Uhuru's bats were keeping vigil with witchcraft. In typical cultist fashion, he saw every symbol there as representing some sort of evil.

But building a church inside State House is confirmation of mental illness because;

1. You think it is your home.

2. You imagine your religion or denomination will be there forever. You forget that Muslims, Rastafarians, Hindus, Legio Maria adherents, Hema ya Ngai, Roho Israel Nineveh, Sorcerers and devil worshippers all have an equal chance of occupying the place.

3. If it's your own money as you claim, are you too re****ed to know you can't construct personal real estate in the country's most premier public property?

4. Will you carry that church home with you when your time comes?

5. You hide behind religion. State House, like the White House, are not run on cultist religious tenets. It is not a diocese or parish of any church. And there are at least twenty churches of different denominations within five kilometres of it, which you can go to, including the All Saints Cathedral, St Paul's Chapel, Maxwell Adventist, AIC Milimani, the Jewish Synagogue, the Hurlingham mosque, the Church of Scientology on Nyerere Road and the Freemason Grand Lodge. Only a sick narcissist needs to add a church there.

Oh, by the way, State House was built by Freemasons. So were the All Saints Cathedral, the Supreme Court building, Railways Headquarters, City Hall, the Freemason Lodge, Parliament Buildings and the National Archives. Their architecture remains replete with Masonic symbolism. You can't change all of them.

Understanding P***s Captivus: A Rare but Manageable Condition

Before attributing certain unusual experiences during intimacy to supernatural causes like witchcraft, or village witches, it's important to understand the medical explanation behind them. One such phenomenon is known as p***s captivus.

What Is P***s Captivus?
P***s captivus is an extremely rare medical condition that occurs during sexual in*******se when the vaginal muscles involuntarily contract too tightly around the p***s, making withdrawal difficult or temporarily impossible. This causes both partners to become "stuck" during in*******se.

Contrary to popular myths, this condition is not caused by spiritual forces, infidelity punishments, or curses. Itโ€™s a physiological reaction.

Why Does It Happen?
During in*******se, the muscles around the vaginaโ€”particularly those of the perineumโ€”may go into sudden, intense spasm. These spasms are involuntary and can create a firm grip on the p***s, making withdrawal challenging. The woman cannot consciously control or relax these muscles during the episode.

What Can Be Done?
Though alarming, this condition usually resolves itself within a few minutes as the muscles naturally relax. However, there are simple techniques that may help relieve the situation more quickly and privately:

1. Re**al Reflex Stimulation:
Gently inserting a clean, dry finger into the womanโ€™s re**um can trigger a relaxation reflex in the pelvic floor muscles, allowing the vaginal grip to loosen and enabling withdrawal. While not glamorous, this method is medically effective and can be performed discreetly.

2. Relaxation Through Medication:
If available, administering a mild sedative or muscle relaxant (such as Diazepam/Valium 10 mg) can help relax the womanโ€™s muscles and release the grip. She may fall asleep briefly, during which the muscles relax naturally.

Final Thoughts

P***s captivus is not dangerous and usually resolves without injury. There is no need to panic or jump to superstitious conclusions. Understanding this rare condition allows for calm, private, and effective management.
